Fighters

Not now... I was about a decade ago until I realised fighting and Ehlers-Danlos are utterly incompatible lol.

What are you doing mate?

I did martial arts from ages of 4-11 then my sensai moved out west (He is now in the UFC "Ryan Jimmo") So I moved onto tae kwon do from ages 11-14 gave that up after a while because I was losing interest and my friends were joining judo. So joined judo at age 15 and did that until I joined the army at age 19. Got out of the army around age 23 and haven't really done much "training" since. I have been looking at a local MMA group hosted by a legendary golden gloves boxing trainer and his friend who fights MMA,

Problem is I have a back injury I have been trying to overcome. I was moving a 1,300 pound rectifier bay (old 80's microwave technology with 800 pound transformers inside) up a flight of stairs with 4 other guys and it started to slip off the cart, I jumped under it and my torso was very twisted when I braced the weight beneath me and the floor. The weight was on the other side but I estimate 400-500 pounds tried to crush me into the ground while my spine was twisted. Ever since my back will give out at random and put me in a gimp like state for a few hours. It can be walking up a flight of stairs or tying my shoes but even lifting weights or doing labour work doesn't seem to trigger it besides the odd time I am careless. So I am hoping strengthening my back muscles at the gym will help, some of the trainers in there specialize in sports injury and such and they are aware of my back problem and they all agreed to stop me if I do something that may further injure myself.

Age 4

Unfortunately yes! It's very limiting but bodybuilding is the best thing I can do for it. I loved boxing, MMA and Krav Maga. But joints just pop out too easily. Ironically it's good for breaking out of holds (I can bend in ways no man should lol), but long term does lots of joint damage.

Sorry to hear this mate!! I hope you do improve with strengthening. Building up the muscle and strength in the back can work miracles with herniated discs sometimes, so it's definitely something you should prioritise. Wearing a brace when you're likely to be doing some lifting might also help to reduce the risk from twisting/shearing on the joint sheathe.

I have been training / competing in ITF Traditional Taekwondo for about a year. I had my first fight as a white belt, but i fought a green belt and won. My second fight i was a yellow stripe fighting another green belt who i lost too. Dude kept dropping axe kicks..

Yes actually ive got an offer to be on TV fighting. They're bringing back PKA Kickboxing ..I forgot to mention that im also an amature boxer

Welcome anti150 to SD we don't get many fighters on here please stick around and share your experience of diet and training methodologies, I'd be interested to know what todays fighters are doing different to when I was in the ring...

Ex hapkido, wrestler, and boxer here. Loved it all. Would have jumped into MMA if my body could handle it but it wasn't around or I didn't know about it when I had the conditioning for it.

Never actually fought in MMA YET but Amateur is certainly a possibility in the future.

I'm a brown belt in BJJ and have competed in over 30 sub grappling/BJJ tournies.

Also cross train in Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling and MMA but not as experienced in those styles.

All that sounds great on paper but firstly who graded you what school for the brown belt.

Secondly how often do you spar?

choices bro
if you have the discipline to train to fight then you know just like I do you have something special

with that said, apply that same discipline to writing the ship....I used to shoot dope so i constantly have to fight that battle..but im doing it, so can you

Why do I feel like my credentials are being questioned??

LOL

It doesn't matter to me what people online think of my skill level.

I know EXACTLY where I stand and where my holes are in every area.

I'm not going to tell you my instructor's name here because I don't want him linked with posts about my drug use but lets just say that he is a black belt under someone who got his black belt from Royce Gracie so my lineage is pure.

My instructor is also a former Pro MMA fighter with a winning record and is one of the better known no-gi grapplers on the East Coast of the U.S. and is a renowned coach who you may have even seen on TV if you knew where to look.

Right now I am just getting back to training after a knee surgery so I am not ready for striking/boxing/MT/MMA sparring with strikes yet, but I roll/grapple live in every class I do, so right now I grapple live no-gi only twice a week but we always start from the feet with wrestling first, none of that guard pulling shit. I am going to increase my training but right now I am going slow cause I don't want to get reinjured.

However, when I am AT MY BEST and NOT recovering from an injury ON AVERAGE I'd say I grapple live about 3--4 times a week, usually no-gi but sometimes gi...and do live Muay Thai Sparring about once or twice a week, live boxing sparring once or twice a week and live MMA sparring about once a week.

There is no need to want to over exaggerate my skill level in any area and if I was full of myself I wouldn't be saying that I only aspire towards Amateur MMA I'd probably pass myself off as a black belt who has done Pro.

BJJ is my best asset, especially no-gi, and I believe my ranking is right where I deserve to be, not ready for black but better than purple.

I never wrestled though and would consider my wrestling slightly below average, but good enough to often get the takedown.

My Muay Thai is average because I have only done it a few years, with my kicks and knees being better than my hands.

My boxing is below average, and I have only done it for a couple years.

I excel when I can get the fight/match to the ground early and often.

If you want to chat more in detail we can PM but I don't give private info about names of instructors on the forums.
