Fight over drug "myths"

The only thing on the Internet that's full of shit is anything that's called a "recipe", and/or looks like this:
HOW 2 MAKE LSD
1. GET 100 MORNING GLORY SEEDS
2. MIX WITH EQUAL PARTS NITROGLYCERIN (U CAN EXTARCT THIS FROM KITTY LITTER)
3. CUT WITH STRICTNINE.

im with everyone else. fuck em if they don't want to be educated. i've tried too many times.
but if it is a close friend, i will tell them and they will believe it, b/c my good friends know that i know my drugs. some will even demand to know more, asking more questions, which is good.
how about the lsd myth-- 7 hits=legally insane
or that getting caught with a certain amount can mean a charge of "conspiracy to overthrow the government"

Good post soviet but I am going to have to disagree with you about drugs being as cool as we can imagine. Sure perhaps LSD isn't anywhere near as fun as you imagine hallucinating to be...it is however infinetley more bizarre than anything our sober minds can comprehend. Unless you are bordering on the psychotic there are just some things you can't imagine...like believing something is both true and false. You might trick yourself into thinking you imagine it but at least in my experience you simply can't imagine that level of madness while sane.
Sure this isn't necesserily a good thing. I am just objecting to the notion that drugs aren't that strong.
Also the first time I did e completly blew out of the water anything I could have imagined or thought of beforehand.
On the stryichnine thing I thought it went like this. Many people figure at least once some stupid fuck who had heard the rumor added strychnine to some LSD he had, or sold strychnine as LSD. However, no tested sample has ever been shown to contain styrchnine.
Also strychnine isn't even really harmful or psychoactive in the amounts that would be absorbed by blotter.
Thats why I love acid. You really can't get poisined. In blotter its either LSD or maybe carfentanil..you can't lose (or it just isn't active)

If you're asking, no and no!
There is no such term as "legally insane". That's one of the biggest drug myths of them all. I forget the origin of it. I think it had something to do with the military would not take you if you had used LSD so many times, but that could be wrong.
If you go to court for anything, you are not going to be declared insane just because you have used a bunch of LSD or any drug. You could have used LSD 7,000 times and you won't be declared insane.
And admitting to drug use will almost always hurt your case as a defendant in court during the trial. Occassionally it be benefitially during sentencing under the right circumstances, but not usually.
A few years ago I actually asked my lawyer about using the LSD thing to my defense by possibly claiming I was insane or something. First he laughed at the whole thing. Then he explained to me why bringing up drug use would make me look more guilty to a jury. Since using drugs is illegal, not only are you admitting to the jury that you break other laws, but most jury members will assume that if you use drugs that you're probably a bad guy and into bad stuff.
Also, under most circumstances it does not matter how messed up on drugs you were when you commited a crime. If you commited the crime, you're guilty of it. Being under the influence of drugs is no excuse.
Now as for conspiracy to overthrow the government. Notice that even those guys that got busted a few years ago for manufacturing several million hits of LSD did not get charged with this. The charge absolutely does not exist. Most likely this rumor came about because one of the primary reasons LSD was scheduled is because the US gov't believed that people who used LSD could be easily influenced by counter-culture revolutionaries to want the government overthrown.

I used to believe sooo much of these urban legends in highschool. [sigh] Just goes to show you- you can go to school as much as you want and make good grades, but, it's your ability to learn, and to ascertain the truth in any knowledge that becomes more important in life. It scares me to think I still have incorrect beliefs/programming, i.e., all those horror stories about PCP are still burned into my head- a policeman shooting a guy that is on PCP and is wielding a knife, he keeps coming at them, until the officer uses his last bullet and puts it between the guys eyes. Theres a bad one I saw a while ago on http://www.rotten.com -"The drugs don't work"(I can't find it, it had a horrendous picture of a mans face that he had been cutting pieces off, which he then fed to his dog. He was said to have been on PCP. He lived...)
(NOT for the faint of heart. But I don't see it there anymore anyway)
I have been thinking about Sovietcontin's long discourse about how he did'nt get where he wanted to go with drugs. I have two quick thoughts about that-
1...Everyone's different, so drugs will affect people differently. Maybe he is not as sensitive to drugs?
2...You may have been using/experimenting with drugs as more of an escape, and the escape wasn't quite what you wanted. (As opposed to using them more recreationally)
Just my thoughts though- I could be wrong...

BTW- I about what I said re: Sovietcontin, I know it was rather open-ended, I meant it in a simple way. I have this feeling I just dragged myself into what will become some 10 page thread... :o
Also-has anybody heard about those legends I stated above? I've always thought that was the only drug I would never touch...

1...Everyone's different, so drugs will affect people differently. Maybe he is not as sensitive to drugs?
Eh.. I think I'm just as sensitive to drugs as anyone else. And I've definantly taken things to limits as far as what I've consumed and experienced as a result.
I've travelled backwards in time, been abducted by aliens, watched grassy hills turn into furry dinosaurs, watched trees turn into multi-headed dragons that fought each other, I saw the life of Jesus all the way to his ressurection in the sky, I've had telepathic experiences, I've died and become a floating bodiless consciousness drifting through the universe, I've floated through music and on and on and on.
2...You may have been using/experimenting with drugs as more of an escape, and the escape wasn't quite what you wanted. (As opposed to using them more recreationally)
Well, first of all, I don't believe anyone goes beyond the stage of experimenting without there being some element of escape involved. There's obviously a part of anyone that is unfulfilled with real life that they have a desire to alter their consciousness.
And certainly over the last year my use of painkillers and heroin has largely been about escape. I've used as a means to deal with my depression.
But before that, I always looked at myself as being my own guinea pig. I was fascinated with the subconscious mind and exploring how the brain works. I went out of my way to try every single drug I possibly could just to find out what they did. I was convinced that certain psychedelic states were important in understanding humanity. And I believed that the drugs actually made certain things happen.
But I came to the realization that it's all inconsequential. The drugs themselves did not magically put the visions and thoughts into my head. All my experiences came from both my conscious and subconscious mind. There is not a single thought or vision I couldn't have imagined on my own.
And you know what? Despite everything I experienced, it didn't change a goddamned thing. I still have to wake up and go to work and pay taxes just like everyone else. None of it made me a better person. The most unbelievable and outragous thing could have happened to me the night before that totally changed my outlook on life.. and yet I'd still have to go to work the next day and come back home and find that my dishes weren't clean and I still had to fold my laundry. There were still bills to pay. All I ever had to show for anything was some crazy story that not many people cared about anyways.
Not to mention that in the process I damaged my brian psychologically and perhaps physically several thousand times.

Honestly, I would agree that "drugs are the coolest things" .. at least in my world.. I mean, you have these inanimate chemicals that actually alter your perception of reality in a way NOTHING ELSE CAN ... you can be depressed as hell and be with "the one you love" and that wont even compare to a good dose of heroin...
Ecstasy - hell, what more could you say other then it's an AMAZING CHEMICAL ... I sitll say the most monumental moment and turning point in my life was the first time I tried ecstasy - to this date, NOTHING has even come within the same realm.. not the first time I fell in love, when I graduated from school, got my first job, lost my virginity, etc....
And psychedelics such as LSD, DOM, and stuff thats WAY out there such as 5-MeO-DMT - good lord, so much about those experiences cant even be put into words...
Maybe I'm missing something?

You do make intersting points Soviet, however I tend to agree with PhreeX. In what situation could you experience "Rolling" without E? I am unaware of any "natural" method to release seratonin the way that E does, without taking E!(MDMA) If you know of one PLEASE DO TELL!!! I suppose that in the case of psychoactives like LSD or shroomies, a dire situation could have similar effects. I.E., drifting at sea with little or no water/food for a long time. However, that hasn't happened to me so I wouldn't know. I'm no Hunter S. Thompson, but, I have been through wild benders that warp the mind beyond comprehension. I just don't believe that kind of "adventure" happens sober.

One myth )fake drug( that i almost lost two friend over involved 'white opium'.. HAH
i never thought it was real to begin with. Came home, went to erowid and confirmed by beliefs. It wasnt later upon speaking with a friend of mine that i actualy found out WHAT it was.. violin resin.
I argued with this guy for 45 mins, finaly just telling him to go ahead and smoke all of it he wanted...
some people are just DUMBASSES..
also, the redrock shix i argued witha guy over, even went to erowid with him and he was like.. see.. it shows red rock...
i said,, dude, yeah with " ' " 's around it.. as it was what ws turned in as that dumbass..
then he looks at me and puts his head down and say.. "oh" ..

Exactly PhreeX!! That first role is far better than any other experience I have ever had...sex, love relationships etc.. etc.. If you didn't lose the magic I would almost certainly have said fuck the braindamage I am rolling all the time.
I understand your point soviet, and it frustrates me as well. No matter how strong and intense the drug trip is for most people it leaves them and reality mostly the same. Sure perhaps they believe differnt things about their subconcious but you aren't really an intrinsicly better person. Life is still a bitch.
I think that is the big error with psychedelics. No matter how earthshaking a transformation *appears* to take place it doesn't really happen. This is what eventually dissillusioned me with psychedelics and helped foster my move into harder, less pretentious substances.
I guess it is partially a matter of initial mindset. Unfortunatly we don't have drugs strong enough to truly change a person in one experience (or if we do our illusion of persistance of I is too strong to be convinced) but if you only expect the drug to affect you for a short time...well you just can't really even imagine sober some of the drug induced experiences.

Soviet:
Slightly off topic, but the most burned out loser drug addict I know is also nursing a healthy addiction to Everquest, which is an online D + D type game/money pit.
He'll shoot up smack and sit there for hours waiting for a certain character to appear so he can get some special sword or some shit.
I guess whatever floats your boat...
