I've had problems with the ol' pooper for as long as I can remember. My stomach is always in some sort of distress, and I am guaranteed at least one of those extremely painful and inconvenient long pooping sessions per 2 week period. I was wondering, is it a good idea to throw some "fiber laxatives" into the mix to get my schedule regular? I have a bottle and I was wondering is it good to take these every day? I, like just about everyone else, find it extremely time consuming and inconvenient to put the correct amount of natural fiber in my diet. Any suggestions on how I can improve my "schedule" through diet at all would actually be helpful. Even though this post hints at an underlying sense of humor about the whole matter, I feel like one day my ass is going to kill me. :(

Just fiber sounds good but I wouldn't use laxatives regularly.

i think you should start off with those laxatives, just to help you in the meantime. however, after that i'd suggest really trying to incorporate fiber into what you eat. it's not as hard as it seems, really. just eat raisin bran every day, and whole wheat stuff.
i get constipated from opiates a lot and i always make myself eat two bowls of bran cereal the day after and one bowl on the days in between.

No no no!
DO NOT use laxatives of any kind. You need to excercize and heal your digestive track, not weaken it further (which is what laxatives do).

Heres what you do.

Go buy a big vat of the 100% natural psyllium husk fiber. Take it once in the morning, about an hour before a meal, with a LOT of water (or mix it with juice). Then eat a healthier diet..lots of stuff like whole wheat, fruits and veggies, beans, brown rice. Stay away from anything processed like candy, white bread, fast food, or too much meat. Over time you can step up the amount of fiber drinks you make after your system has had time to adjust. (like maybe another drink at night time).

If you do take a laxative, just take one to get things moving, the night before starting this program. Laxatives make the bowel sluggish and the problem worse.

you don't know yer shit schedule until it's tampered with

Try Citrucel caplets or Citrucel dissolvable clear flavourless powder daily. Citrucel has methylcellulose rather than psyllium to get things moving thru your digestive track. I found it worked better for me.

Make a fibre supplement part of your daily routine. Stay away from the laxatives. We have all been there brother for one reason or another. Mine was from speed addiction. My boyfriend's constipation culprit is Effexor. Staying regular is essential for your well being.

or too much meat.

:( :( :(

I don't know if I can give up eating an insane amount of meat every day... it's so good... the light of my life!

I thought maybe eating so much meat all the time made my tummy stronger, but I guess that's just ridiculous considering how messed up my stomach feels all the time. :(

eating tons of meat is a good way to guarantee a myriad of health problems, i ate 9-10 8 oz steaks a day for about 5 years, all the digestive tract related cancers come from meat, you need to change your diet dude, 2g/lb of protein is a myth, its placebo, all protein diets lead to ibs

you wanna live long and be healthy (including shitting daily or every other day relatively comfortably) change your diet

forget laxatives or psyllium husk or any of that shit

eat a ton of different fruits, vegs and fish (non farmed)

40/30/30

no processesed, pasteurized, refined, hydrogenated, saturated you get the picture

long grain brown rice, steel cut oats, pineapple, papaya

and about a gallon of filtered water, depending on your size

switch out the fish for chicken or steak once or twice a week and youre still way ahead of the game

I do drink about a gallon of water every day, give or take... but I was wondering about the fish you mentioned. Is there a cheap way to eat non-farmed fish all the time, because I'm moving to an apartment pretty soon so I'll be out shopping for my own food... thnx :)

I know I constantly beat the vegan drum but...I used to never poop and had constant stomach aches. Now, I have a lot more time to read...
A large amount of dietary fiber is a must

one word - flaxseeds. crush them and add them to your food, good fats, protein & loads of fibre, you'll be regular in no time I promise.

Try not eating meat. It rots your intestines.

Ever since I switch to veggie/vegan I've had 0 problems with that sort of thing..

Also: Flaxseed meal can replace any oil call in recipes 3:1
Odwalla bars also have flax in their Berries Go-mega bar

You can. I used to love steaks. I never thought I would give up eating beef.
I just kinda made the committment, or at least the committment to cut way back. It seemed like the longer went by, the less I wanted to eat beef. Id allow myself a steak every now and again, but every time Id eat one Id feel really crappy about it, and notice how hard it was to digest. It would feel like leather inside of my intestines.

What Im saying is, if you make the choice to give up meat, you will miss it for awhile but eventually your digestive system will kind of evolve past the point where it wants any meat. Red meat is kind of disgusting to me now..I still like chicken but I can only stomach it maybe every 2-3 days..

Veggie Burgers are a delicious replacement, once you get used to the taste and texture difference. I like Morningstar farms "griller" patties.

Grow or pick some gourmet mushrooms. The puffball mushroom can be 24" in diameter, so you can grill it like a steak.

And to be honest, I can't even stand the smell of frying meat from across a room. But here's a tip for fast food: You can substitute any meat on the Taco Bell menu with beans. I particularly enjoy beef[beans] & potato burritos ($1.40 for a half-pound)

Food for thought: You can tell the freshness of a veggie or fruit by just looking at it. But whenever I look at a friend's burger, it could be a month old, for all I know.

bs, you can even be fooled into buying old veg, for instance broccoli packed in snow like they do in the store when it gets old, feels just as firm as fresh broccoli and there is no odor, boxed berries can be very difficult to check just by looking, and they often mix old and new with the new on top and then wrap with saran like the strawberry packs, i prefer not to buy any fruit or veg that i cant handle and smell, the visual is important but handling and smelling can hardly be discounted, but as with the broccoli, its easy to be fooled, i live in socal so there is some fresh produce around and you can still get screwed

i can smell hamburger or chicken or fish and tell you just how fresh it is, a month old burger? you dont know much about animal if you think you could slip a month old burger past any olfactory enabled human, how about a month old avacado that still looks good and is firm? ive had 3 in my crisper for 6 weeks and the one i cut up yesterday was just fine

the best thing you can do is pick the nicest feeling/looking/smelling/date, then check it all out thoroughly when you get home and if anything is wack you take it back, right then, they are only too happy, willing rather, to refund the money to a loudly dissatisfied customer, take em on, and it doesnt hurt to make mental price notes and compare against the receipt, i constantly get refunds this way but hey, im a pretty aggressive and value-minded consumer

caveat emptor
