I banged around 8mg of hydromorphone yesterday evening (jurnista if that makes a difference) and I've got a slight fever today... I'm not sure if it really qualifies as a fever, though. It's nothing that major, it just feels like I'm kind of hot and cold at the same time, kind of like minor opiate withdrawals (though this is only my third time using hydromorphone in about 2 weeks so I don't think I'm going through withdrawals). Does anyone know what this could be?

cotton fever, it will go away soon

Doubt it. Cotton fever develops very soon after injection and does not last very long. He banged it yesterday and developed a fever today.

You may have introduced some random bacteria into your system that your body is fighting off and thus the fever, or its possible that it is a total coincidence and you are just coming down with the flu or a cold.

If things get worse or your fever spikes up higher, go to the hospital.

It might be that my junkie-slang is a tad rusty, but isn't the definition of 'cotton fever' exactly a systemic condition brought about by the accidental introduction of bacteria into the bloodstream while shooting?

Besides I agree with the above, could easily be an unrelated and coincidental infection - bacterial or viral.

peace!

iirc cotton fever occurs when you get cotton fiber in the solution and it makes it's way into your heart.

Not cotton fever, that comes on quickly after injection and the fever is quite high.

Probably just a cold, unrelated to the dilaudid.

Ha all that speculation for nothing. Glad you feel better.

Now, I'm curious as to what cotton fever actually refers to. Seems like bropiate got it, after reviewing a quick google search of cotton fever.

cotton fever is when you slam dope.. get a fever/loss of balance/shaking rather quickly. it hits hard as hell and then eventually subsides.

edit: details not needed.

Glad you're doing better as well! I'm going to go ahead and close this. PM me if you need it reopened or anything!
