festivals 2010

Electric Picnic was savage overall. The only dampener (bar the typhoon on Sunday) was having a group of lads jumping me at the toilets in the Andy Warhol site and having my wristband torn off.

I'd dropped three Hoffmans a few minutes before and wandered over to the music anyway. The security obviously didn't take a shine to me and next thing I knew I was frogmarched out of the festival as I was coming up hard. Que 4 hours of me wandering around the roads and woods completely out of my head, thinking everyone was a tinker and trying to convince the blokes at the gate to let me back in, with no success.

I eventually got a lend of a phone off someone and called my mate, who came stampeding out completely wired on mephedrone to rescue me. He pestered and probably frightened every garda and member of security till they eventually let me back in. sans wristband.

I had to go back over to the entrance gate in the morning to convince them to give me a new band. I got a complete grilling and cross-examination whilst drunk as a lord, wired on meph and coming down off acid. I was asked for intimate details of the campsite and the process I had to go through to get into the festival when I could barely remember what festival I was at. In the end I remembered some very vague details and fair fucks to the bloke, he gave me a new (VIP!) band.

All's well that ends well, but the whole thing could have been an absolute fucking nightmare trip ending with the having to leave on Saturday morning.

I know shit happens, but it's disappointing having this kind of bollox go down at the Picnic. Hope it doesn't turn into another Oxegen.

That's bad news about being jumped and your wristband being stolen. Have never really seen anything like that at the Picnic but have been reading story's on different forums and it seems to be getting worse at it. I really hope it doesn't go to bad as has always been a very good buzz at it! I was woken up by something hitting my tent and realised when leaving that someone had thrown a jar of hair cream or something at it. Out of interest, what age are you? Just wondering did they pick you cause you're young?

I'm 22 and wear a stubble ,so I don't look young, and I'm between 5'8 and 5'9 so slightly small but not tiny, though to be honest I'd been hitting the strong cider twosies and I'd smoked a fair bit so I mightn't have been walking in the straightest line of all time. Still wankers for doing it :(

Yes they are mate.
I was once at a festival in thurles, tipperary in the 1990s and some wankers from Dublin decided to invade the campsite and start beating people up.
What kind of wanker goes round doing this kind of shit. Its not an Irish thing, its a wanker thing. Irish people are pretty friendly on the whole.
Fortunately you won't find this at Sonne Mond Sterne or Melt! Or Fusion in Germany and I'd recommend all of those.
Sonne Mond Sterne being completely electronic (crazy germans being crazy) and the others being more eclectic.
Fair play for not letting it spoil your weekend, being off your tits has some benefits, one is not being able to give a shit when crazy shit happens.
I've seen fights kick off at beach parties here, who the fuck goes to a music festival or ibiza to start a row ffs, where does that enter the equation, do these fuckers not get it?
Festivals, chill, spliff, drugs, relax, dance, go crazy, have fun.
Oppressive behaviour puts a kybosh on that and has no place in that environment.

That must have been Féile aka "The Tripp To Tipp" you're on about.
Was a great festival and I was very young at the time but then it started getting bad with tents being robbed after a couple of years. Maybe it is an Irish thing. Things start out good to be ruined eventually by bad elements. We should all gang up on the bad elements and beat them out of the festival the second they pipe up. Assholes ruining it for everyone! :X
 
was also at FEILE in Thurles. 91 and 92 or else 92-93 i reckon.
before my drug taking days.was offered this magic tablet for £20 by this bloke i was drinking with but was afraid to take it off him.
 
planet love was good last night, not my scene but i love my hardstyle music, despite being (basically) sober, i really enjoyed it!

got offered all the shit pills of the day and as much meph as i wanted but couldnt be assed dealing with spidey folk that would just snatch your muney
 
Reading Festival 2010 was fucking amazing.

Any drug you needed, you could get it. Best 5days of my life yet!
 
more an more coming back to me bout the picnic at first didnt think i had that good of a time now im fucking buzzing jus thinking of half the shit i got up to lol
 
Don't the mini moshers riot and set the place on fire every year at Reading? Sounds like the worst festival ever.
 
Nah, i think the rioting is hugely over-exaggerated. There were a few fires on the last night from people trying to keep warm and even then they were put out almost instantly. I also found the people there to be very friendly apart from one stupid cunt jumping on people tents.
 
Leeds Festival riots of 2002? I think it was were pretty full on there hasn't been anything of that scale since. Was like apocalypse now standing in a field with everything burning around and loads of helicopters overhead. The occasional explosion as another chemical toilet exploded and shot up into the air, peopled knocked over the guard towers and used them as battering rams to smash into secure areas etc. It held a certain je ne sais quoi to 16 year old me I must admit...
 
It can get cuntish at Leeds/Reading and there are a lot of people at the festival just to get drunk and look indie.

That said, the line up (aside from this year) is usually spot on. Unfortunately I won't be going again for a long time due to price hikes. There's better value for money out there.
 
Just got a mail from Glastonbury to say I can book my ticket for 2011 on the 3rd of October by paying £50 and the rest to be paid next April. Seriously thinking of it. Would be my first time. Always watch it on TV and looks great
