festival death due to " Benzo Fury" ?

Very sad that a young life has been taken & wasted.

But that article seems to be a case of 1 + 1 = 3.

There's no mention of any proof the lad had taken BF is there. Yet that substance somehow gets linked and singled out...8(

Not that i'm defending BF in particular, I've never even tried it. This just seems to be a case of legal high bashing. The media seems to really have it in for legal highs now...

Read this on the BBC.

Misleading thread title though mate, there's nothing to say he'd definitely taken drugs let alone taken "Benzo Fury".

A statement from the Northern Constabulary, said: "Early indications are that the man may have consumed drugs and this is one of the lines of enquiry at this stage.

The teenager, from Edinburgh, was taken ill in the main arena late on Saturday night.
Northern Constabulary police officers said they were investigating the possibility he had taken drugs.

Later police issued photographs of a substance called Benzo Fury, saying they believed it to be "in circulation" and believed it "may be dangerous".

No claims at all that the boy had taken it.

Added question mark.

I wonder why Benzo Fury is mentioned - perhaps the boy had some on him? Very sad indeed :( but can also see a predictable pattern here.. how long until the ban I wonder?

Yes, stock up!

This knee-jerk banning nonsense really does encourage unnecessary bulk buying. But on the plus side it takes these dangerous chemicals off our streets.

What I take from reading it is that someone died, possibly due to drugs. The police are aware of "benzo fury" at the festival (along with a dozen other drugs). I don't see the connection at all, other than to make people more likely to read it - big bad legal highs n all that.

Is it actually any good? What does it do? Just like other benzo's?

There's nothing whatsoever to suggest the lad that died took any!! In fact the article says 'we SUSPECT that he MAY have taken drugs'. The possible drugs aint even mentioned.

It's not a benzodiazepine at all, it's a stupid pun because the molecule contains a benzofuran moiety. It's an analogue of MDA, but I haven't tried it so won't comment on effects.

So benzo fury has made headlines, therefore expect iminent ban
R.I.P. TO the young man who passed away.

It always starts like this. Didn't two people apparently die from MXE just before the ban?

I lost count of the mephedrone deaths leading up to the ban. Right before the meph ban, there was a case of two young men emblazoned all over some shit rag,i think it was the Star, later it had emerged that these lads died from methadone.

Thinking about it,Benzo Fury is one of the ones you have a few tries on ,then it just becomes boring.

The package lists it's ingredients as 6-APB. From what I understand, that is an amphetamine RC? Not a benzo at all.

Edit:

Taken from Wikipedia...

"It is similar to MDA in that the 3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl ring system has been replaced with a benzofuran ring"

Perhaps this is where the name Benzo-Fury comes from.

Yes the name Benzo Fury is rather misleading, sounds like a benzo that could turn into a seething rage..............and theres me thinking benzos are for anxiety,calm,peace,tranquility..............

Ill thought out name for an RC,along with many others.

Yup, yup and nup, nup. Several reported meph-related deaths just prior to the ban every single one of which later turned out not to be. Same goes for the MXE - no actual evidence MXE was involved in that case. Other reports of MXE-related deaths worldwide have also been somewhat suspect - usually involving polydrug and complete ignorance of what it actually is and, more to the point, what a suitable dose may be on the part of the unfortunately late users...

Am not saying either substance caused no deaths - they may have done, may not have done - but there's yet to be a confirmed death caused by either as far as I know. Deaths involving multiple substances and assorted associated "misadventure" stuff, yes. But that ain't a direct causal link.

I'd bet a ball this falls under the same banner. Branded 6-APB packaging was found at the festy so made for a good scare story to whip up righteous rightwing tabloid fury at one of the very few legal RCs that are both still legal and worth taking. Ban imminent :(

Incidentally, most folks with a brain pleaded with the vendors to rethink that bloody stooopid and highly irresponsible brandname idea. As noted here, it just makes folk think it must be some kinda benzo rather than an MDA analogue - ie a pretty potent euphoric stimulant similar to MDMA. Haven't seen any other suspected major health concerns with 6-APB meself despite it being widely-used for quite some time now. Feels safe as a hefty metal box with combination lock to me. Combo'd up with certain other drugs I could imagine it being a bit of a Serotonin Syndrome risk though. Especially if someone took 'em to chill after overdoing other stimmy and/or serty substances thinking it was a benzo :\

Not what I've been hearing. Apparently (this is from mates who've been there all weekend) there were some black guys from London roaming all over the campsite giving out loads of those red M's (the PMA pills that killed that lad in london) for FREE. Scumbags. 3 people dead at rockness so far.

My mate who's there has posted a couple of fb status's warning people but when they're free and there are people who don't know their drugs all wanting to get wrecked it's a receipe for disaster. I told my mate to just kick the shit out of the guy.

PMA pills dished out at a festy for free?!? Scumbags barely covers it. Murdering scumbags would be a word or so nearer the mark. If that really is the case then it'd be a near-miracle if there's only those three deaths involved :|

Would be interesting to see how many other, non-fatal, severe reactions occurred. If PMA is floating about and fairly widespread then there's likely to be a sharp spike in casualties going on. You'd like to think even plod might notice summat unusual was afoot and maybe look beyond the easy target of shiny packaging and catchy branding to find a more suspect suspect. You'd like to think anyway...

Yeah that's what my mate is saying. His cousin died off those einsteins aswell slightly further north than here, so obviously he hates this aswell. Saw a few wise heads putting warnings up on facebook not to take the red M's or blue einsteins, even links to pillreports.

Bad crack if these people were giving out pills they know are deadly and can't sell in london or wherever at a festival just to fuck people up. If I'd seen the guy I'd have stuck a tent peg through his eye socket for that.

I honestly can't understand why anyone would be giving 'em away free for any reason. Makes no sense. Unless they think they're just amazing quality pills and want to give a festy a good vibe for nowt. And I kinda doubt that's the case...

Other than that it's just insane. Surely risking a manslaughter charge ain't worth... whatever it is they'd be getting out of giving away shonky pills :?

FB warnings are a good idea on your mates' part. Good on 'em. The festy organisers really oughta be reading out warning announcements onstage though - Woodstock "Brown Acid" stylee. Presume they'd rather pretend nobody was using drugs at their festival though :\

You missed something crucial!

were some black guys from London

Al-Quaeda

:p

Maybe they are insane - sick psychopaths, who knows. The public announcements idea is a good one. If it is a large scale thing, they'd have to do this surely.

Bit brutal with the tent peg through eye socket. Pin him down, give him a taste of his own 'medicine',then stick a tent peg through his eye socket.

I would honestly have wrecked someone right infront of the cops even for doing that, people like that need a proper kicking.

I think the idea would be give a few away for free then sell the rest? Fuck knows tbh but either way it's bad bad crack at a festival.

I reckon the whole thing about Benzo Fury is shite. They probably found a packet on one of the people who died, blamed it on that. How can you possibly say for sure that's what they'd taken? It's a festival, if I were there by today I'd probably have consumed various substances.
