my friend has recently given me 6 12.5mcg fentanyl transdermal patches/72hrs, mylan brand (they're NOT the duragesic kind with the gel). I had an opiate tolerance of 60mg oxy, but it may have substantially dropped since it's been about 1 month since I've used any opiates.

I have a rotator cuff injury and the Naprosyn just isn't cutting it for me with regard to pain. what is a safe way for me to take these, and what should I expect?

thanks y'all :)

Hi aq. It depends on what your looking to get outta the fentanyl. If your just looking for pain relief then just stick the patch on, fentanyl really does work wonders for pain. It's got drawbacks too though, ime it'll blow your tolerance up quick and make hydro or oxy seem kinda lame. It's also a really bad detox once you run out. Since u only have 6 patches and no regular script that's definitely something you gotta think about. Once your outta fentanyl your gonna be spending a lot more on Oxys or whatever your painkiller of choice is because the fentanyl is pretty strong shit and not especially euphoric, personally I prefer the way Oxys make me feel as opposed to fentanyl. I almost fell out a long time ago chewing small pieces of the mylan patches so be very careful, 12.5mcg doesn't sound like it's much of anything but with fentanyl it is IMO/ime. I had a tolerance right about where yours is too, right around 60-75mg of oxy a day and the fentanyl almost finished me. I'd just wear them if I came across them again cause that shit scared the fuck outta me. Just be safe bro, it's a lame buzz and not worth dying over if u chew pieces...

Thanks cliffy :)

so if I put the whole patch on, I should be okay? I don't want to OD and die, I'm supposed to move into my own apartment this month ha. all I want is for my shoulder pain to go away, not really trying to get a buzz from it. if euphoria comes, even better. I get really anxious when trying new drugs.

would it be bad if I cut the patch into 4ths? I read that it's not good to do that but I think that was only the gel ones. I just want to take them the safest way possible.

I don't see anyone dying from wearing one patch its when the patch is abused when bad things happen. You probaly wont get any euphoria but it helps pain tremendously. If you really want you can cut it up but I don't see it delivering a good dose of medicine when you do that cause those patches are designed to stay in one piece and the are made to give a exact dose to the patient every hour I can see cutting the patches messing with the delivery system of the patch but ive never cut them before when I used patches I always just stuck 3 or 4 on my arm at once to get really high but don't do this I had issues at the time.

You can cut those without a problem. The medicine is equally distributed. However, the 12.5 mcg is not a superstring dose--it's the weakest dose they come in. But if you have absolutely no tolerance (as you said it's been a month), then maybe start with a half a patch. You are better off doing half at a time rather than puttin whole thing on and seeing it's too strong because if you remove patch it will not work properly if restuck back on.

Some of the nongel also work well cut into strips and placed against your gums. However some brands are not very effective this way.

They take a few hours to really start "feeling" it so if you put a half on, make sure you wait at least 6-8 hours before applying more. Because of the way the drug accumulates in your skin just removing the patch if you feel too high doesn't eliminate the issue--you will still have more entering your bloodstream

Any other questions just ask...I have a good bit of experience with these, and have friends who are prescribed them as well

If u put it on regular you'll get good pain relief, if u wanna chill for a bit though and decide to cut it I'd definitly cut it in quarters and chew on a quarter for about 2hrs, DONT FALL ASLEEP WITH THE PATCH IN UR MOUTH!! Sry had to capitalize that to feel comfortable lol. I think a quarter will buzz u if u tuck it between ur cheek and gums since u don't got much of a tolerance. But for the best/longest pain relief I'd just wear it if that's what ur going for.
Just be careful and pay attn to how u feel, my breathing went real shallow when I did it with a 1/4 of a 100mcg and that shit was really fuckin scary. I'm lucky I was paying attn. be safe and enjoy :)

Thanks so much everyone!

I'll try the 1/2 patch. How long should I leave it on for the first time? Do you think it will make me super drowsy? I just don't know a good time to take it because I work 8-430 all week, and need full function of both arms. I just can't be falling asleep at my desk.

The pain is at the point where I can't even wash my hair or take off my shirt without wanting to cry. Rotator cuff injuries are quite painful I guess..

They are meant to be worn up to 72 hours. They aren't very effective if you take off and then put back on, the dr said it ruins the membrane... So if you want to fully use I would leave it on the whole time.

It hits very gradually so you would be fine to put on in morning. Of it started becoming too much you would know, it's not like it hits you BLAM out of nowhere, you would start feeling slightly nauseous and (for me) headachy. You definitely don't want to put on before bed the first time you try it, that's how people OD as opiates lead to shallower and slower breathing. If asleep you wouldn't notice if effects were becoming too much. If you are really worried about work take it at first in the morning on a day off

Just be careful as you should not cut the patch. That would alter the amount of Fentanyl intake. Use it as prescribed. Only after a couple of days you will know if that is enough or if you will need a break through medication in between dosages.
I believe 12.5 mcg is very safe. The first effects should happen only after 12-14 hours.
