Ok so ive been on subs for the past 6 months 16 mg a day. A few days ago i had quit taking the subs cuz my friend gave me half a fentanyl patch. I quit the subs for 2 days then chewed the patch (12.5mcg) and didnt even get high. Now im coming up on 48hrs since ive chewed the patch and want to know if i can start taking my subs again or how much longer do i need to wait until i can start taking them again. Anything is appreciated ive searched everywhere and havent been able to find anything.
Thanks

Yes, you're fine to continue with the subs. The fent probably just bounced off bupe blockaded receptors. 16mg/day is an unnecessarily large dose...after 72 hours you'll still have plenty of unbound bupe waiting to bind.

Have you thought about tapering your dose down? I'd be willing to bet 8mg can hold you just as well as 16 does.

Yeah ive been prescribed 16mg a day but for the past month or so i have only been taking one in the mornings to get me going and give me some energy for work. I rarely take 2 a day anymore. I would like to completely come off them but ive tried coming off them by myself and i just have no energy and feel so lazy and dont wanna do anything. Work yesterday and today was hell, i didnt wanna do anything and had no energy because i was scared to take a sub because i didnt want to go into pw's. I just took my first sub again tho its under my tongue as im typing this. I just dont know how im gonna ever come off them. Any suggestions?

Yeah, I definitely suggest you look into tapering down. If 8mg holds you, then 7.5mg will hold you just fine, right? Take 7.5mg tomorrow. The next day, take 7, etc.

Eventually, if you taper down, you'll get it to around 0.5mg or even 0.25mg per day. Then you can jump off after a few days at the ultra low dose.

What you DON'T want to do is keep taking massive doses unnecessarily (16mg will make a rhino nod). You're making your body get used to buprenorphine, and if you think kicking a short-acting full agonist is difficult, you'll be in a new world of hurt trying to kick bupe, which has a 72-ish hour half-life.

Taper down before your body gets used to the bupe. The whole idea is that you use the bupe to mask the agony of acute withdrawal (temporary), not permanent replacement. If you want permanent replacement, I'd look at methadone.

I dont even get high off the subs anymore. I did for the first week or so and now i just take em to feel normal. Ive never been on methadone but ive heard that the withdrawals from that are horrible too

Yeah, me neither. I miss the days when 2mg of buprenorphine would get me nodding all day. Methadone and bupe are both a nightmare to kick due to their long half-life/slow elimination.

But the most important tool in your w/d arsenal is the DESIRE to quit. As long as that is there, you will have what it takes to do it regardless of how.
