Opioids Fentanyl potency over time

Is it true that fentanyl increases it's potency over time?

Ive heard that the longer you keep a fentanyl patch sitting in your drawer or medicine cabinet( wherever ), the stronger it becomes.
I think it has something to do with the chemical reacting to oxygen or something causing it to become more powerfull in some odd way.....ive even had a friend experience something that would suggest this is true.

Anyway, if someone has any insight or ideas I would be very appreciative.

I've never heard anything of the sort.

Actually if you leave a fentanyl patch out and exposed to air, it will lose potency as the alcohol containing the fentanyl evaporates.

Not true..!! Your friend lied to you or is a newbie to the patch. When i tried the patch the first time around 1996 it was used for two days on my best friends arm, but i got high as hell for about 12 hours after i taped it on my arm. ..back then the patches were a lot stronger and larger than the tiny patches they have now. It also took about 4- 6 hours to kick in.
