The Durogesic (fentanyl) 50m patches are supposed to be left on the skin for 3 days, but is it ok to use them for around 8 hours, then remove them and use another one a day or so later?
And can they be used randomly or is it better to use them as directed?

I assume its the Dtrans Durogesic patches that you have and not the durogesic gel patch ? These patch's are not ment to be removed and then put back on at a later date. You can do this but it will make them less effective because of dead skin on the patch. If they are 50mcg durogesic patchs that contain 8.4mg of fentanyl and you want to use them recreationally get a ruler and a pen and measure it out EQUALLY so there are 16 equal spaces on the patch. Each 1/16th of a patch is 0.5 milligram / half a milligram of fentanyl. Cut of 1/16 at a time and place 1/16 of a patch under your tounge. Also though if you dont have any tollerance to opiates at all divide it by 20 to be on the safe side and make sure you stop sucking on the patch and discard it if you feel your getting very sleepy or its to strong. Im on fentanyl if you have any questions feel free to pm me I dont think theres many people on this forum that are on fentanyl patch's which is why youve probably not had a reply yet. Peace

it will lose potency as soon as you take the "skin" off the patch to make it available for use

Absolutely it will lose potency but how much is probably a debate for another thread. As long as you dont remove the plastic backing off the whole patch and you only take the backing off the piece you cut off and intend to suck on it should be ok for at least a month as long as you keep it in the foil pouch it came in, just keep it in a dark place as well like a draw then fold the open side over to seal it best as you can it should be ok then. Also if you wanted too you could try just wearing 1/16th of a patch and see how that effects you. This method would also be safer and less waste full than putting full size patch's on and then removing them to put on at a later date. They are just not intended for recreational use.

Another thing i forgot to mention is if your patches are the durogesic gel patch DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CUT THEM UP INTO SEPERATE PIECES as the gel will go everywhere you dont want it to and will be potentially lethal if you get it on your skin. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions. I know a fair bit about these patch's as ive been on them on and off scince about 2007.

Peace

Hi thanks so much for the replies. No they are not the gel I dont think, theyre a clear patch.
Im not using them recreationally, I had a car accident and have had chronic pain for a while and these seemed to be the last resort.
I tried the 25's and they did nothing at all.
With the 50's, when I first put them on, about an hour or two later the pain completely goes away. I also get a slight high, am able to work/do stuff like a normal human being aside from being a little jittery. I become happy and kinda weird, people ask me if Im drunk at times, but that doesnt really bother me.
After about 8 hours of wearing the patch I get really naseous and also start having strange depressing thoughts. I get the shakes and the high feeling wears off.
Ive never worn the 3 day patch (50) for longer than 10 hours because of the side effects.
I cant tell my doctor any of this because he will put me on yet another medication and this is the only one that has worked for the pain.
After I remove the patch, I cant wear another one for the next 2 days and I feel like total shit for those days. I get restless legs, irritable, angry and mean.
I did take the patch off, put it back on the backing strip thingy and put it on afew hours later but youre all right about it losing the effects. Im not sure it was actually working but I didnt get the pain so bad or the restless legs so I assume it was a little bit. Ive found if I leave it off too long though, I cant reuse it because it just wont stick on the skin anymore.
Not sure what to do about this, not even sure Im on the right forum lol.
Has anyone here ever had this same problem? Do the side effects eventually go away?

Hi are21 thanks for the friend request :) Now i know your not a recreational user of these patch's i can give you better advice. Im sure you would be able to tell if there the durogesic gel patch's because they feel thicker they are sometimes called solid mass patch's too by dr's although the chances you have one (a gel patch) would be very rare unless you live in country where the D trans patches are a lot more expensive than the original durogesic. In fact im not 100% sure the durogesic gel patch is still made now i think they was discontinued in some countrys recently. From my experience the strange feeling tends to go away from them after around a month or two. Mine was intially a weird feeling that woke me up for some reason feeling very strange then 5 mins later i could feel my breathing was to slow and had a sudden urge to remove that patch instantly thinking im overdosing. It sounded like just as you described although may vary from person to person. My advice to you would be if you can wear the 25mcg patch for 3 days without having to take it off id try devideing the 50mcg patch into 3/4's deviating on the slightly under side of 3/4's of a patch which would work out to a 25mcg patch and a 12mcg patch applied at the same time. It is ok to use a ruler and biro to write on them to know where to cut to devide equally. Your other option would be to wear half a patch = to a 25mcg one then cut the other half of the patch into 6 equal pieces and suck on one piece up to twice daily if you need too. Sucking on a patch cut to a predetermined dose will not normally cause overdoses in opiate tollerant people as long as no other drugs are involved.

The patch's are safe to be cut up and worn like that although it will tell you not to do that in the instructions but they only say not to do that in case some one try's to sue them You can tell very easily if they are gel patch's because they say only durogesic on the box and its durogesic d trans for the clear tape non gel type see through patchs. Do you mind if i ask have you been on any other types of opiate pain killers like codeine tramadol and dihydrocodiene or the stronger ones like pethedine oxycodone morphine hydromorphone diconal or oxymorphone normally there a last resort kind of painkiller but saying that so is oxymorphone and diconal lol

Peace hope your ok :)

Crap I wrote a long response and it somehow deleted it! I will try again...

Hi again sorry I keep responding but the page signs out on me so I cant post!
What I said was just that I had also heard that it was a last resort and I went straight from panadine forte to fentanyl 50's. I had a car accident afew years ago and some of my spine was crushed and my lumbar is herniated. The pain has gotten worse over the years.
When I was in hospital I was on morphine, then on coedine for a bit, but for most of the time was just given panadine forte.
It is hard to get my doctor to hear me about my chronic pain and it took years for me to get him to finally treat it (with the patches). I have seen another doctor recently but Im assuming because I am quite young, she didnt think my pain was that bad and gave me endep. I dont think you can explain the pain of a broken back to people, even doctors, that dont have a broken back.
The day I was put on the fentanyl, I asked for tramadol after reading afew forums but my doctor doesnt like being told what to do and prescribed me the patches instead.
I will try cutting them up, thanks for that advice and see if it makes any difference.
The side effects really suck on these patches. I also get insomnia on them and even taking valium or stillnox (ambien in America) wont put me to sleep.
How harsh is the withdrawl if I do go off them? My doctor is very unhelpful and I dont want to ask him incase he takes me off them completely if I change my mind.
I just dont want to try to find a new doctor again as they dont seem to believe me about the pain.
Thanks again for replying to me, its good to know there is someone else out there who had the same experience with these patches!
