I am new to Bluelight. My name is spiderwebrose (Debby) I am hoping someone can help me with some questions regarding changing over from Fentany patches 100mcg to oral Morphine 30 mg.ES I am more confused and terrified every time the doctor changes the plan. An overview of what is happening is this. I have been on fentanyl pain patches for 12 years for chronic pain, an autoimmune disorder and avascular necrosis of both hips. I had been on the same dosage of 100 mcg since 2011. I have refused all oral breakthrough pain medication except for prescription ibuprofen 600mg 3 x's daily. I have terrible digestive problems from other oral pain meds, which is the reason i was put on the fentanyl patches. I have had zero other problems ever from the fentanyl. Am on a yearly pain contract, never ever have had any problems at all. Until my appointment this past Monday for my yearly pain contract and review. Apparently because of some very bad problems with opiate addiction and overdoses, the state of Wisconsin is now requiring some major changes. So out of the blue i was told on monday this week, they would not be renewing my 100 mcg fentanyl pain patch prescription and would be changing me over to morphine sulphate ES 30 mg 4 every 12 hours to total 8 per day. My doctor ordered Clonidine patches for withdrawal symptoms. And told me when i am finished with my last fentanyl patch to put on the clonidine patch and then take four morphine pills and 12 hours later take 4 more. I am such a nervous wreck about ANY medication or any changes. So it was bad enough, but then my doctor called me back and said No! don't take 4 morphine pills right away, start with 2. Then called back AGAIN and said No! There will still be fentanyl in my system..something about a half life..and do not take any morphine until my pain gets really bad! Then said it is recommended you do not stay alone. Have someone stay with you and we have ordered a Narcan Kit for you to have with you and if you have a problem. whoever is with you will have to use the Narcan Kit on you and call 911. OMG I am totally freaking out by this time!!! Of course I have no one at all on such short notice who could stay with me or who felt comfortable enough to hit me up with a Narcan Kit!!! SO now I am going into the hospital in the morning for the change over! I am super nervous and anxious and terrified! My doctor said "oh you should be just fine!" If not we have things available to help you get through this!!! I said well what if I cannot handle any of these meds? because that is why i went on the patches in the first place!! I am sitting here worried sick about any and all Intervention shows I have seen where people are going through withdrawal. I am freaking out!!!! Please if there is any one out there who had an experience similar...could you please tell me how it went? I have a feeling I will be up all night worrying myself into a frazzle!!! Thank you in advance! ~Debby~

Hi there and welcome to the site,

We do have a pain management thread over in 'healthy living' where people may have some experience with these drugs and the effectiveness of changing from patches to oral replacements.

May I suggest that you break up your wall of text as it becomes difficult to read and puts a lot of people off from reading.

Thanks
