Alright...I know this has probably been asked a million times, but its my safety, so I gotta ask again. I have a Duragesic 50 MCG./hr. patch. The best way to describe my tolerance is when I get my hands on some OP 80s I take 2 at a time, usually 4 maybe 5 in a 24 hour period. That's about the most I like to take and still be functional. Is it even a REMOTELY good idea for me to put this patch on? If so, for how long? Should I just wear it.....I would like to hear your thoughts please

Here is what I got from the Purdue Pharma dosage guide on OxyContin

Conversion from Transdermal Fentanyl to OxyContin

Eighteen hours following the removal of the transdermal fentanyl patch, OxyContin treatment can be initiated. Although there has been no systematic assessment of such conversion, a conservative oxycodone dose, approximately 10 mg every 12 hours of OxyContin, should be initially substituted for each 25 mcg/hr fentanyl transdermal patch. Follow the patient closely during conversion from transdermal fentanyl to OxyContin, as there is limited documented experience with this conversion.

Judging by that you will be safe to use the 50mcg fentanyl patch. It's a little tricky since they are going from fentanyl to OxyContin, and trying to use the lowest dose possible of OxyContin to treat pain the same as a 25mcg fentanyl patch would since there might be some fentanyl in the system still. DO NOT think that since it says to use 10mg of OxyContin for every 25mcg/hr patch that you should use 8 50mcg patches if you are taking 2 80mg OxyContin pills a day. You should be fine to use the one 50mcg/hr patch though, and see how that works for you.

As a side note, most people don't find fentanyl to be particularly euphoric, especially when compared to oxycodone, so don't expect the same high. Also, just because you may not be feeling high doesn't mean it's not working, so don't keep slapping on patches to try to achieve the same high since it can easily result in overdose.

Thanks for the response. I'm not even looking to get high (a buzz never hurts though)..i just wanna stay well and pain free until I get my meds tmrw....i ran out early. These patches just scare the shit out of me....and I didn't know if my tolerance was big enough now to be able to handle it. So thank you.

Oh yea....do these patches take a while to start working?

Thanks for the replies.....it was my first time trying fentanyl, but it did the trick. It wasn't much of a buzz, but it kept me from being sick and it most certainly helped with my pain. One patch was definitely enough.

One thing I found wierd though.....it was like I had "some" withdrawal symptoms, but not the ones I usually get. Like, my body and anxiety levels were good, but my stomach went into withdrawal mode......bubble guts.....etc. I wasn't in withdrawal, with the exception of my stomach.....which definitely was.

Anyway.......just thought I would mention that, and thanks again for the sound advice.
