I’m on the fentanyl patch from my doctor and also Percocet, neurontin, ambian, and zyprexa. The Percocet 5/325 3X day isn’t helping me at all and he refuses to raise me. My question is can I go on suboxone and still keep my Fent patch. I’ve got end stage cancer and am in pain. Any advice would help.

No, do not consume the suboxone, it will make you very sick.

Sorry that you are in pain 😞. I wouldn't usually recommend this, but if you are experiencing severe cancer-related pain and cannot get a script you might research poppy seed tea or perhaps even tianeptine as last ditch options for pain control. Generally these are terrible options that can have awful consequences, and that very well may be the case here as well, but they may offer some relief. May also be a bad idea, since the doses required may be unsustainable and only effective in the short term. What is the strength of your patch? 75ug/hr? 100ug/hr?

No just 25ug/hr and only 3 Percocet 5s a day.. it was just an errant thought I’m just in so much pain all the time.. thank you for your thoughtful reply I will talk to my dr.

I think I might ask my dr to send me to pain management also have you ever been? I don’t know what to expect.

I see. If you are still in pain, the clear answer here is to have those 25ug/hr patches increased to the 50's

If your doctor won't prescribe this then certainly ask him if he can refer you to someone for pain management. Pain is treatable, and no one with late stage cancer should be defined adequate pain control.

But definitely avoid the suboxone!

The DEA is holding a gun to all doctors heads right now basicslly.

I've seen people with cancer not get proper medication besides you.

I'm making plans to leave America over this permanently.

Honestly I've always had the better luck with primary care doctors vs pain doctors.

You need to find the oldest males doctor you can possibly find (pain or general)...like over 75 yrs old, in a rich neighborhood and try to have a rich address somehow close to his office, and show up very professional with all your records and give him a lecture on all your illness, treatments done, and then just mention you cannot sleep or function and you cry the pain is so bad sometimes.

But you need to clear this with the doctor prescribing your current meds. Just tell him you really appreciate these meds ans they are helping you but if he can't "get the pain under control" (do not say raise dose)...you would like his permission or referral to a pain specialist.

You can't have any drugs at all in your piss except what you are prescribed...including weed alcohol and nicotine...they will test yoy.

Don't touch suboxone unless you plan to switch to ONLY suboxone. But it's painkilling is pretty weak.

I am so sorry you can't get the meds you need. Anyone who is going through what you are desires that at least. I wish you the best and I hope you can enjoy family and friends as a distraction from the pain.

Were you taking any opioids at all before you got cancer? How long have you been taking fentanyl and Percocet for? Cuz if you didn't have a tolerance that would be a lot for someone I would think. But if its not doing the trick then definitely ask for higher milligram patches over more Percocet. And don't use suboxone. It won't help with your pain at all and it will throw you into precipitated withdrawals, so I wouldn't fuck with it. And when you do go and see the pain management people don't have anything that your not prescribed in your system cuz they'll say you're burnt if you have any other drug in your pee. And nicotine and alcohol are fine they won't trip about that.

Whatever you do dont even consider the subuxone route in my opinion. Maybe some will disagree because of harm reduction but this person needs opiates period. Cant believe its 2023 damn near and someone in your position still has to figure shit out.

This is bad advice maybe but maybe not: If no one ends up helping you not a new doctor or the one you have now, and it becomes impossible for you to figure out, i would go to a methadone clinic and use your prescriptions as a reason for "addiction" so you could get onto a full agonist opiate thats strong enough.

Youd probably even be allowed to keep your percs maybe not the fent patches but maybe those too plus the gabapentin and everything else.

This is what i would do and my honest advice to you please keep us posted i would love to hear your doctors reply

Thank you I’ll will definitely get that a try

The answers here have it covered. You need a whole new setup. Keep us posted.
I agree I’m switching cancer care centers. It’s metastasized to my liver now I don’t think it will be long but I’m staying positive

if you don't mind me asking, what cancer or cancers do you have at this point and what type of treatment plan do they have you on? The pain I understand but are you on chemo or radiotherapy?

I find this absolutely shocking. I get that doc's need to cover their own arses and not end up fired, but their priority should be their Hippocratic Oath, the senior doc's should push for more freedom in circumstances like yours. Sorry, I'm sure that's not much comfort to you.

As stated above you need to push for higher fentanyl doses. Maybe kratom could help a little. Maybe you could ask about hydro/oxymorphone instead of oxycodone as they're a lot stronger. And push the notion your pain is unbearable and you need relief badly. Good luck.

I'm not sure where OP is from but in America private practice doctors have been completely wiped out or swallowed up by large corporate hospital systems thar have hard rules not letting their doctors prescribe opioids.
