If its an all day event, take a toil roll (stand on it so it flattens) and a couple of bin bags that you can put your backpack in or fashion a quick waterproof poncho out of (hole in the bottom, one either side for your arms and your good to go :D). The merchandise is normally cheaper the later it gets when there trying to shift it - but once you have it then you can forget about it. I've done loads of events by myself (not for a while now though) but I used to prefer it - the days my own, meet new people in the event etc.

I stilll have nightmares about making gnocchi from when I was a cook, difficult job to do nicely and it makes a hell of a mess.

I went to Field Day this year alone, first time I've been to a fest alone and it was wicked. Cuts out all the crap of waiting around for people and having to go see shit you're not interested in just to stay part of the group. Plus you can easily hook up with people there for a bit and you're not bound to them for the whole time. It's the way forward - certainly beats trying to stay part of a big group anyway.

Deffo... I hitched to Glasto in 1987 on my own - met up with a couple of guys that got me in using their wristbands, met some dirty slut for funtimes ;) and didn't have to worry about anyone else but me.
 
I fingered a girl wearing a wedding dress on the dancefloor at Arcadia at Boomtown last year, I'm about a decade too old to be doing shit like that.=D
