Opioids Feet swelling?

Been using heroin for the past week to get myself over some mild benzo WD's, but last night I noticed my right foot was absolutely massive.

Could this be from the heroin use ? I'm sure i've read about opiates sometimes causing swelling in the feet, and if so what do I need to do ? And I know BL shouldn't be used as a doctors etc etc, i'd just like some info on what to do.
 
Yea im pretty sure that opiates can ONLY cause swelling in the feet 3 ways....

1.) You IV in your feet and that caused your foot to swell.

2.) You are allergic to the opiate you are taking.(or its metabolite).

3.) You have been injecting drugs and have caused a clot that spread to your ankle/foot area and is now causing your foot to swell.

All of these situations call for a doctors help. I really wouldnt know the best thing for you to do other than to go to a doctor as soon as possible. Maybe try soaking it in warm water? Or massaging it?....but if the swelling doesnt go down soon, I would definitely go to a doctor....that is if you value your foot on your body(and your life).
 
I've had swelling in my hands and feet quite often from opiates.. but not to the point where it was uncomfortable or 'massive'. I do believe it has something to do with the histamine reaction as I would get it more with opiates that have a higher instance of histamine release than others.

If it is *that* swollen, you should probably see a doctor. You don't need to mention that you have been using opiates unless it comes up.
 
Nope no IV. So can't be that.

This has never happened before when i've smoked heroin so I don't get how I can be allergic.

But now I think it about it, I have just moved to a new city, so could be cut with different things maybe?

Haven't actually registered at doctors cause I only moved last weekend, but think i'm gunna pop down tomorrow if it's still swollen. I've just been resting with my leg rose up. Is this a good or bad idea?
 
ah, yes....i forgot about the histamine reaction.....that is a definite possiblility as well.

But if you have been using heroin for a long time(especially this EXACT kind of heroin) and have never experienced foot swelling(or any kind of hand/foot swelling) then my guess is that it isnt a histamine reaction.

but like she said^^^.....a doctor is your best bet, even though I know you said you didnt wanna hear that, but its the truth.

I've gotten swollen feet from opiates before, and a friend of mine has had it happen also. So it's not uncommon, but only you know if it's swollen enough to warrant seeing a doctor.

In the meantime, keeping them raised above your heart is about all you can do. I used to put on two pairs of socks to help compress the swelling, and then lay down with my feet up on a chair. It happened enough times for me that I wasn't even phased by it. Definitely a histamine thing for me.
 
^ This exactly what i've ended up doing, Doctors is shut on Sunday though so gunna have to wait till Monday now. Hopefully will of sorted itself out by then.

There are no hospitals open on sunday that you can go to if need be?
 
Well yeah there will be doctors at the hospital. But I don't think I can be bothered wit the 5/6 wait it would take to get seen for such a trvial thing.

Basically now just wondering worst case scenario for what could happen... 8o ?
 
In my opinion, the worst case scenario would be that you have some type of clot causing the foot swelling, and clots have a tendency to move throughout your circulatory system and end up in your brain(or soemwhere else extremely dangerous) potentially causing a stroke. but dont worry, I highly doubt this is something you need to worry about, its just that in reality it actually IS your worst case scenario.

but in all honsesty I think you probably just had a histamine reaction or it could be completely unrelated to the heroin. who knows. thats why having a doctor check you out is always a good idea.

And I understand you dont want to wait at a hospital for hours on end for something thats possibly a very "un-threataning" situation.....but the truth is that you dont really know what kind of situation your in....so maybe it isnt a "trivial" issue and needs to be attended to immediately.

But if you dont want to go to the doctor, jsut wait it out, and see if it gets any worse....and if it does, I would DEFINITELY go to a doc. And if it doesnt get any better (but not worse) for a couple days, i would also go to a doctor then. But hopefully it will simply go away on its own.
 
Cheers mate :). Yeah, I know BL isn't supposed to be used instead of doctors, but just wanted abit of information, and I knew doctors are closed on Sundays so fancied knowing abit before I went Monday.

Well i've had a sleep and it seems to be getting better. It's alitte bit less swollen and not as sore now. Still going doctors tomorrow to get it checked out. but this can only be a good thing :)!

yes, a blood clot is DEFINITELY a possibility. There are thousands and thousands of people every year who have medical complications due to blood clots. Some of them even die due to the clots. And most of those people have never IV'ed a drug in there life.

....my point being that the blood clot(if there is one) could be compeletely unrelated to her drug use. Some people just get blood clots for no apparent reason.
 
Cool - thanks for informing me. I'm smart enough to know my assumptions aren't necessarily true. However, if someone had swelling in both feet, is that still possibly a blood clot? Both my feet have swelled up from some opiates (only pod tea, from my recollection.) Just really curious because I know people who have had swelling from opiates, and I think it's a subject that hasn't been discussed much.
