Benzos feeling you get from benzo?

Yes. Speaking as someone living with panic disorder and PTSD, Xanax makes life more bearable. When benzos (I previously took Valium before being switched to Xanax) kick in, I feel the relaxation first in the nape of my neck, under my hair, which is long. If I combine benzos with BT opioids for chronic pain, I feel a synergistic effect that enhances both and relieves both. And for once, I can say thank ya, BigPharma.

I do NOT mix benzos with alcohol--never have. If you're too young to remember Karen Ann Quinlan, Google her. Now that's a sad and cautionary tale.

Just read about her...sad indeed.

The same argument could be made about mixing opioids and benzos and yes I do mix alcohol and benzos. Just like with opioids mixing either with benzos isn't exactly safe but as long as you have a tolerance and don't over do it.

You are right about opioids and benzos. I forgot to say that my opioids are prescribed for a specific condition, taken as directed and not recreationally, and that my Xanax prescriber and my pain group are all on the same page, so everyone knows who's giving what.

Sounds like a massive rationalization, no? But given this life, which is almost bearable with both benzos and opioids, this is how the M.D. pit crew and I address the situation.

I do miss having a couple of gin and tonics with a friend, sitting and laughing at nothing... but that's off the table, probably forever.

Just read about her as well. Reminds me of a dream I had the other night where I was killed, couldn't move or talk but still I could think. I thought "will they bury me without knowing I can still think?". Such a scary feeling, what if she was still "conscious" in her mind yet couldn't move or talk to anyone to let them know. Imagine living the 10 years they kept her alive for like that.

dude, how the fuck can you say anything about Karen Ann Quinlan!? are we really going to bring up something that happened in the 70's or 80's and compare it to the world today? she supposedly drank and took 1 Valium, which lead to the collapse, seizure, coma and whatnot. do you realize that probably 35% of Americans mix benzo/alcohol daily? is it safe? no, absolutely not. but lets not bring up ONE CASE that MIGHT HAVE HAD NOTHING TO DO w/ THE DRUG.

shocked that was even brought up.

anyway, after a 2 day break from benzos, I took 1 more 10MG valium last night (after drinking earlier, OMG) to help sleep. I also smoked a bit before bed and felt great as usual between the val/weed. but benzos are def. something I dont see being a "fun" or drug that is done outside of the home unless used for its real purpose, anxiety/stress.

Karen Ann Quinlan took Valium and Darvon along with alcohol and ended up in a persistent vegetative state... no different from what could happen today.

Your source for assertion that "35 percent" of population regularly mixes benzos and alcohol?

Those of us using cocaine, freebase, and crack (that I knew, anyway) cut WAY back or quit after Len Bias, the Maryland basketball star, died of cardiac arrest after using cocaine in 1986.

Risks have been around as long as drugs and alcohol have... I still haven't figured out how my alcoholic parents, who also ate fistfuls of barbiturates, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, and muscle relaxants, survived the '60s and '70s.

dude, people get the coverage because who they are; not sure why/how Karen got any coverage at all. my EX GF worked at MGH (one of the largest hospitals in the world) and said she would see daily OD's come in for various reasons; some based on 1 drug and some based on a mixture of drugs.

it happens and happens often; and youre right, I did just throw that number out but I throw that number out just thinking of how many people I KNOW ALONE that will mix benzo/alcohol and think nothing of it. ill even go as far to say I've done it myself many time. hell. I was shooting speed balls w/ benzo's and then have a beer. its a sad as shit story and I wish death upon NO ONE AT ALL; esp. when its drug related considering how I grew up so closely related to drugs but you cant put up stories like that as if they happen daily.

your parents being a perfect example of how more make it than dont. my 2 uncles were straight CRACK HEADS for years and years; mixing everything and then some. hell, youre parents might be my uncles from the sounds of what you mentioned, and they are both living as if nothing hit them. sure. 1 of them has slowed down tremendously but the other who is right around 70 has been running HARD for 40 years now. blows my mind. I am at year 12 and throwing the hat in. I just cant take it anymore.

we should start a poll? how many people have mixed alcohol/benzo? pretty sure on this board we would get a lot of people saying YES. a lot of peeps taking the benzo just to go out and kill the anxiety and chill the fuck out a bit (for those who actually have it scripted). then while out they may throw down a few drinks because they fit in w/ the crowd and are feeling comfy. happened to me many times. now, do I remember the ride home or the night, probably not often. but I still mixed the 2 a lot.

I suffer from pretty severe anxiety so find benzo's very useful, particularly xanax/alprazolam.

They're somewhat recreational, sometimes it's nice to come home after a stressy day, have a few xanax and truly relax. But those who get addicted aren't usually recreational users, they're those who self medicate on benzo's and it often spirals out of control.

Some people say they've had euphoric experiences on benzos... I've never experienced that with any (most) that I've tried.

My body gets heavy and I get sleepy. But other than that I don't see them being useful or recreational to anyone other than who it's prescribed for. The relief from anxiety is almost euphoric in and of itself, at least to me.

I like to say they do nothing for me, i am very high strung person and even at 28 mg at one time it did nothing as i been slowly going up . I am ready to ask the dr to take me off this crap

There is really no harm reduction value in this thread (and the only time it was brought up the OP argued with the fact that it was mentioned) so I'm closing this thread.
