Took shrooms with a buddy the other day, both on an empty stomach, and he claimed he didn't feel anything for 45 minutes. We took 1.5 grams at 3 pm, then another 1.5 at 530pm and I was up literally all night with about 2 hours total of intermittent "half sleep" while he claimed he slept like a baby. It also took him 3 hours to feel 3 grams of phenibut his first time taking it where as I can feel it in 20-30 minutes. I can feel kratom coming on at about 3 minutes, dexedrine @ about 7 minutes i'm basically peaking. I also get more anxiety than anyone I know while smoking weed, and I get MUCH worse alcohol w/ds than anyone I know. I also have really bad insomnia most of the time (not due to stimulants). Anyone else have this kind of hypersensitivity to drugs? Does this mean that my body is functioning at a higher level and I'm simply more aware of changes going on in my brain, or do you think I might be deficient in some sort of inhibitory neurotransmitter or natural tolerance to drugs? Part of me thinks that because I'm more of a drug connoisseur than most I know what to look for on the come-up / w/d so I can sense it more, but still, I feel like I'm reacting way more sensitively than almost everyone on these boards as well...?

You feel oral dexedrine after 7 minutes or snorted or what ROA?
No one can tell you why you're more sensitive to drugs than other people, the mechanisms behind it aren't properly understood.
Theories usually point to some people having different metabolic rates for certain drugs or a higher concentration of receptor sites.

I have kind of the same thing and when I brought it up to my doctor they said that people with general anxiety tend to feel drugs more since they are so obsessed over their body and mind set.

Of course it could be something else like your ethnicity, gender and weight.

Everyone's body is different, don't expect to have the same feeling/results as the man standing next to ya. There could be a hundred reasons why, but that's just how it is.

As mentioned these phenomena aren't well understood, I feel there are strong links between :

Anxious personality traits [
  • Social /general anxiety
  • insomniac tendencies / 'light sleeper'
  • Introversion, introspection
]

and:

  • Abnormally fast onset of [some] drug effects
  • Abnormal sensitivity to [some] drugs' effects
  • Strong preference of depressants (downers such as benzos, opiates) over stimulants

Please excuse my sloppy terminology, it may not be academically correct but I hope some will understand my point, I'm speaking entirely from personal experience.

I am anxious, introverted and insomniac, I cannot tolerate stimulants, I crave sedation. I feel the onset of almost every drug I've tried very, very quickly and often with pronounced effect.

I'm sure there's a whole group of us out there, and probably an underlying genetic explanation awaits. Meanwhile, we should share our experiences and endeavour to expound the nuances of the human mind. :D

i think it's possible, i took some wet labbies once and the onset was within 10 minutes, full blown tripping nuts by 30. they were wet though and tasted soooo gnarly.

Mushrooms are also hit or miss. Even if y'all ate the same batch your mushrooms could have contained more psilocybin(4-ho-dmt) than his mushrooms. Yours could have contained double the amount causing you to come up faster/trip harder and longer etc.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I feel dexedrine orally on an empty stomach in 3 minutes. If I take a decent dose like 25mg+ I'm geeked out of my mind in under 10 minutes.

I do have a really fast metabolism, I'm in the gym all the time and constantly eating. For me I think it could be a combination of this and having anxiety and being highly introspective. Prior to eating the shrooms I had quite a bit of nervous energy for pretty much the entire day. It was as if I was priming myself to go into battle. Perhaps my brain was primed in this regard to start firing off at the first signs of such a powerful hallucinogen making its way to my brain. So, even at first when only trace amounts had made it's way to my brain, it was manifested into a trip which would normally occur at least an hour in for most
