Opiates are very subtle drugs, indeed, however some fully synthetic opioids aren't as subtle likely due to their other mechanisms of action besides agonizing the mu-opioid receptor. Anyhow, yes, opiates are very subtle drugs, in general, as amazing as they are, and often they are an accquired taste. They don't fuck you up like some GABAergic's do (alcohol, benzos, barbs etc.) because they aren't GABAergic. Amoeba, I can completely relate to looking back on an opiate experience even more fondly than you thought it was at the time. This is true for a lot of my experiences with opiates esp. the first one I ever had. The trick with opiates is to have no trick, to let them wash over you, to let them envelop you, to let them roll over you like a wave. Many will actually report opiate highs ungulating with waves of euphoria. This is something unique to opiates.
