ok so im tapering down from clonazepam and this is all under a dr's supervision hes got me on

1mg clonazepam daily for a month,
.1mg clonidine daily
25 mg Amitriptyline before bed daily

i know i have social anxiety disorder which is why i started taking clonazepam in the first place and he said the Amitriptyline should help with depression but i've been taking it for about a week now and i feel A LOT of depression now, nothing like i have felt before...i just feel so down all the time, real moody, so unmotivated and really dont want to do anything at all and it sucks especially because we have a family owned business and within the past 2 weeks i have taken at least 5 days off due to this and i dont want to take anymore days off because im just losing out on money..only thing i have tried that actually makes me feel better is taking an opiate for example hydrocodone or oxycodone and that makes me feel better but i dont want to keep taking that just to feel better i want to get to the root of the problem, can anyone help? is it possibly the Amitriptyline thats doing this to me since i've only been taking it for a week? all help is appreciated

There are many factors that can cause depression.

The clonaz' is just a temporary solution, but will help.

How's life in general? Are you getting laid? Are you exercising? Are you overweight/unhappy with your body image? Are you abusing drugs/alcohol? Are you eating right/getting enough vitamins? Is your sleeping pattern good? Are you generally bored? The list goes on and on.

The social phobia can be solved by trying to be brave and intentionally put yourself in situations where you have to face your fear. The depression can be solved by trying new things: hobbies, socialising, exercise etc.

Try therapy or make some changes to your life rather than using drugs; this is better in the long-run.

i was exercising daily until about a month ago, not overweight i have no problem with my body image, i take opiates like i said every once a while to make me feel happy they give me the euphoria and motivation to actually do things and do my job correctly, definitely eating right and definitley taking my daily vitamins, sleep pattern is real good also i just have trouble falling asleep because of the whole depression thing so idk if its the Amitriptyline or what is causing it

well you said youre taperin off kpins right? if you were on a high dose and youre down to 1mg of it that may well be the cause. when tapering you still have w'd effects, just not as pronounced. now i know nothing about amitryptiline but if its an ssri, IMO/E you should get offa that. all SSRIs did for me was turn me into a living dead. i felt no emotion, no sadness, no happiness, just nothing. numb all the time. Good luck to you bro. and that takes a strong person not to go down the opiate highway. respect/

Thanks guys I'm gonna drop the amitripiline anyh other help or tips?

You are taking the clonidine for anxiety assosciated with the taper, or actually blood pressure? I'd drop the anti-depressant if I were you, it sounds like it is just doing more harm than good.

He said the clonidine will help me fall asleep and it should help with the withdrawal symptoms idk how

my aunt was on clonidine for gettin though w/ds and she said they did absolutely nothin. id drop that too unless like the dude a few above me said, you need it for blood pressure, then keep it

and actually i dont think ssri's do jack sheeeeit for depression. klonopin works wonders for it AND anxiety. but then there also the addiction potential...

My doc prescribed amitriptyline as a potentiator for my dilaudid and I've been taking it daily for about 2 months... I only recently found out that it's primary function is as an anti depressant and I can't say i've noticed any difference in my outlook or state of mind. If anything the last few months I've been more antisocial than usual, but I'm not prepared to just blame it on the drugs...

Either way, it certainly hasn't made me feel any BETTER!

you could try to replace the benzo with something like an SSRI.... escitalopram has worked wonders for me... it may not be the one for u, but you should talk about SSRI's with your docc, you talk about being "more depressed", that means you're allready depressed, an SSRI would help with anxiety AND depression...

however, it does take at least 3 weeks to start acting

Anti-depressents are bullshit man you dont need them force yourself to excercise get those endorphins flowing

Also like it has been suggested try and get out and do the shit you enjoy even thoguh you may not feel like it you gotta have some hobbys

You said you have definately been getting your daily vitamins so thats good i dont know what your taking but possibly a seperate Omega 3 and b complex vitamin supplement along wiht your normal vitamins can help you out there both good for energy and mood

thanks, all other tips are much appreciated i also noticed now its very hard for me to sleep at night which sucks because i have to be up daily at 5am for work

Seems like as of now the only way to happily get through my day I need something to make me feel good and happy which is why I've been taking hydrocodone to make me feel better the past week..I just don't know what to do anymore or how to get rid of this social anxiety disorder...dr gave me amitriptyline but that just made my depre anxiety a lot worse and made me very depressed the couple days after taking the 255mg at night so I stopped using that can anyone suggest a non benzo that you think would help with the social anxiety I've been having for long as I can remember? Seems like benzos are my only cure but I know they're not good in the long run..thanks

HA! I have a clone! Yeah - I take Hydros too to help me with anxiety. The Doc put me on an SSRI and it damn near ruined my life. Mild opiates work wonders for motivation and getting me through the hard times -- but you HAVE TO USE THEM SPARINGLY!! NEVER MAKE A HABIT OF USING OPIATES EVERY DAY!! At most I'll take a Lortab twice a week. The opiate road is dangerous and you can get sucked into addiction verrrrry easily. Be careful my friend.

this all probably goes without saying but anyway...

If you're prone to depression and anxiety, which are usually comorbid right?, than benzo withdrawal is obviously gonna kick your ass. It really just attacks you at your core, and makes you hurt from the inside out. Depression is a real fucking tough mistress. There are many sure fire solutions in the scope of short term treatment, and an equal number of long-term solutions that are nowhere near as dependable. Recommending anti-depressants such as SSRI's seems like a moot point, as you're depression is likely wd induced. If you are feeling like jumping off of a bridge than I would reach for the closest thing that makes you feel like life is bearable. If you are just feeling a little blue, you're probably gonna have to stick it out. It's the most healthy option, and is the most conducive to a clear mind and body in the long run. Clonazepam is a long acting drug, so dig in and think happy thoughts. Good luck to you brother.

Yes, tapering from clonazepam on its own will make you depressed and anxious. The antidepressant you were given may be making things worse. Don't start using opiates to try and mask your problems. They are quite addictive. Talk to your doctor about Lyrica. It is great for anxiety and helps with depression as well. It is also great for benzodiazepine withdrawal.
