[Feedback Thread] How can WE improve on the PD forum? Suggestions welcome!

I know I'm new here, but I've seen this all over the place and it's really quite unhelpful.

Perhaps it's possible to have people stop posting links to the basic erowid pages like:

http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/lsd/lsd.shtml
http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma/mdma.shtml

and telling them to 'start reading'. I'm pretty sure most people who find bluelight have already found erowid, and a telling them to 'start reading' doesn't answer their question at all.

Perhaps if they posted a link to a specific trip report on erowid or the drug FAQ there or something more specific, it would be more helpful.

ime that only ever happens when the person has absolutely no knowledge of whatever substance they are inquiring about. this is harm reduction. it is extremely important to know your substance. too many people make assumptions or do not respect their mind and body enough to understand what they are about to do to them.

as far as specific substance related questions we have 'big and dandy' threads for just about everything. we even have subthreads in many of them suited especially for basic questions

Try using the advanced search function and change it to search titles only :)

can we make it so that shorter commonly abbreviated items will get put into the search?

if you were to search for "IV MDMA" or something it will generally just come up with MDMA results.... and since few people type out the word intravenous, results are a pain in the ass...

Thanks for the feedback unison.

A lot of the questions we get here are things that would likely not have been asked if the person had read the erowid vaults or one of the B&Ds.

Quite often people want confirmation of what they've read from people they're able to talk to about it; such as on a forum, so it gets asked. This is a good thing. We usually give them a quick answer as to what our experience is, and redirect it by posting links to erowid or a B&D. We may then close it, merge it, or leave it open to get more responses. It all depends on the situation and the question being asked.

Quite often we do get the feeling some people who post here haven't seen erowid yet, so I don't think it hurts to post a link and encourage them to read and research it themselves.

There's a saying that I've iterated a few times: Give someone a fish and you've fed them for a day, teach someone to fish and they're able to feed themselves for the rest of their life. :)

Give someone a fish and you've fed them for a day, teach someone to fish and they're able to feed themselves for the rest of their life.

What if all the fish in the sea run out because we're polluting the seas?

It's better to teach someone to farm potatoes IMO.

I think I've read Yams (sweet potatoes) are a good candidate for the last food on earth. They have nearly everything the body needs to survive and they're easy to grow in various climates.

I say we teach everyone to farm Yams. :D

Like a sweet version of a potato but with a different kind of taste. They're orange on the inside, a bit more moist than a potato but similar texture.

I very much prefer potatoes over yams though. Try one to find out.

Potatoes taste way better than yams. Assuming there isn't another potato famine I think I'm set for a while.

We need to farm tomatoes too so we can make them into ketchup so we can have potatoes and ketchup :)

Hmm. Pot a toe?

weird

the indian vegetarian buffet i go to makes killer potatoes of all sorts. their veggie medley of sweet potatoes, spinach, peas, and carrots is heavenly and they have huge red potato cunks in their veggie soup.

That's a good question... I wonder how we would go about finding that out?

you could get a site admin to put in an analytics tracker of some sort. they're all pretty transparent. i use google analytics all the time to see traffic trending. people could possible trip out on that but it doesnt capture ip addresses or anything. it does give a breakdown of locales that people connect from though. but if people were so worried they'd be using proxies in the first place.

Maybe I'm missing something, but does PD have an archive? I don't see it in the front PD forum page. Like the other forums here, PD doesn't have a list of active mods and archived threads. Just curious to why not.
