Federal agents have raided a number of medical marijuana dispensaries in the Puget Sound region.

Drug Enforcement Administration spokeswoman Jodie Underwood said Wednesday afternoon the operation was under way. She declined to immediately provide details about how many dispensaries were being targeted or how many search warrants were being executed.

Washington state legalized adult possession of up to an ounce of marijuana last fall, but marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

Seattle medical marijuana attorney Douglas Hiatt said the targeted dispensaries include Seattle Cross, Tacoma Cross and Bayside Collective in Olympia.

I've been waiting for shit to get real between the states and Obama for months now. Let's see where this goes.

is it really likely to go anywhere? hasn't this happened a few times before without any major backlash?

Obama said he had bigger issues to deal with then medical marijuana clinics. They have shut down the clubs in my area city by city. Now delivery service is the only option or driving further.

It's time to go with science, marijuana has proven to have many medical uses. It needs to be re-scheduled as a schedule two drug for this reason.

The Feds get all there publicity off of Marijuana, they employ thousands of people to get rid of this "terrible drug". What a waste of tax payer money.

They should spend there time and resources if they must going after meth labs and crack heads. (No fence) weed shouldn't be put in the same category as schedule one drugs. The feds have an out dated way of looking at pot.

Something has got to change. Things were going well for awhile, but then we took two steps back. We need more people to step up for marijuana. Vote out these hypocrites in Washington that have old belief systems.

Fuck the DEA, if they want to feel the wrath of a million stoned Washingtonians, let them TRY and take away what is now legally ours.

What wrath, some laughable peaceful protests? Its pitiful really. The feds aren't going to take that shit seriously.

What we need to do is invent a new kind of dispensary system that de-centralizes business, so that it can't be found.

Keep it underground yet available.

I would imagine that many powerful Americans want to get their finger in the legal marijuana manufacturing pie. There is a gigantic amount of cash flow that will be legitimized upon legalization. I imagine the administration's ideal situation would include regulations being placed on marijuana production which make barriers to entry in the market exceedingly high for all except the wealthiest entities. What I envision as happening in the Federal government is an attempt to control legalization and steer it in a direction in which gives control to corporations. The way existing legalization laws are written are very unfavorable to corporations and in fact seem to discourage corporate takeover and standardization (perhaps unwittingly, perhaps not). I would expect to see in the future attempts to strike from future legalization things like growing marijuana at home and include things such as rigid standardization in an attempt to make existing marijuana production models obsolete and barriers to entry high for a newly-formed legal marijuana industry.

What these businesses were guilty of was getting in too early. The Federal Government is not just going to allow entities it considers to be black market to suddenly become legitimate. It will wipe out those entities in some way or another and require new ones to form that are considered legitimate. The question is, who is going to be given the reigns to that massively-profitable, already established market?

everyone grows a little bit at home.

In Canada a lot of pro growers dont want legalization because they make more money. When it becomes legal most growers will run legal ops. A few will continue to grow illegally because they are hippies and fuck the system man, or because they want to exploit the black market (kids, export to USA).

The distribution system will see most of the retail level move to dispensaries, along with the distributors for supply line. Others will just move to other drugs.

In Canada you could easily get 90% of the pot business legal within a year or two. And I am talking about billions of dollars.

I hope it gets fucking violent. I am ready to give my life.

if it gets violent america will fracture and become a horrible civil war. i will be hiding in the mountains with a sniper rifle and pockets full of weed and gold, hunting americans thinking they can take the tar sands to fuel their tanks.

No, they shouldn't. Nor should they go after opana, oxy or heroin users. They may have a case going after violent criminals who happen to also sell drugs, but they should not spend a cent or a minute of time policing drugs. Especially drug users, the lowest rung on the ladder who are often already in a very bad way. These people need medical treatment, maintenance or if they would prefer to attempt to detox, they should have all that provided for them. They should not be prosecuted, fined, potentially jailed which will just make the problem for the user, the users family and the community as a whole worse off.

Drug users should be treated by the medical system, not legal and prison systems.
