Favourite song lyrics

If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man
You win some, lose some, it's all the same to me
The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say
I don't share your greed, the only card I need is
The ace of spades, the ace of spades1

Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil
Going with the flow, it's all a game to me
Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you
Double up or quit, double stake or split
The ace of spades, the ace of spades

You know I'm born to lose and gambling's for fools
But that's the way I like it, baby
I don't wanna live for ever
And don't forget the joker

Pushing up the ante, I know you got to see me
Read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die
The only thing you see, you know it's gonna be
The ace of spades, the ace of spades

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM "Miles Davis & The Cool"

Like Miles Davis, I've been swayed by the cool
There's just something 'bout the summertime, there's just something 'bout the moon
So I laid a kiss on a stone, tossed it upside your window by the roof
Before you change your mind, Miles, bring in the cool

Honey, put on your red dress and your diamond-soled shoes
Climb on out from that window, climb on out of your room
'Cause I never had a good thing and I always had the blues
But I heard that you always kinda wondered, Miles, strike up the cool

Don't wait too long to come home
My, how the years and our youth passed on
Don't wait too long to come home
I will leave the front light on
And the night is our own
Don't wait too long

Like poor Mr. Pitiful, I can't turn you loose
You move like a dream I had, I woke up sweating in my room
But your mama's got plans and your daddy's aim is true
She never understood that it ain't no good, papa never heard the cool

So now I've got up my nerve and found me a stone
With a flick of the wrist and a turn of the key, you'll just fall in my arms

And don't wait too long to come home
My, how the years and our youth passed on
Don't wait too long to come home
I will leave the front light on
And the night is our own
Don't wait too long

So why don't you sing to me on this long drive home
And let the sound of your voice sway sweet and slow
As we go down, down, down from our youth to the ground
Down, down, down from our youth to the ground

We might always be blue
Jackson

Don't wait too long to come home
My, how the years and our youth passed on
Don't wait too long to come home
I will leave the front light on

No, don't wait too long to come home
My, how the years and our youth passed on
Don't wait too long to come home
I will leave the front light on

As we go down, down, down from our youth to the ground
Down, down, down from our youth to the ground
Down, down, down from our youth to the ground
Down, down, down, down, down

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM "The Backseat"

In the back seats of burned out cars
In the disenchantment lane
The ideal angels twist and turn
And ask forgiveness for future mistakes

But you and I, we've been through this
Maybe a hundred times before
Always hitchin' rides with strangers
That papa warned us about before

But you know the summer always brought in
That wild and reckless breeze
And in the backseats we just tried to find
Some room for our knees

And in the backseats we just tried to find some room to breathe
And in the backseats we just tried to find some room to breathe

And in the wild desert sun
We drove straight on through the night
We rode the fever out of Austin
Dreamed of California lights

Come July, we'll ride the ferris wheel
Go 'round and 'round and 'round
And if you never let me go
Well, I will never let you down

And you know the summer always brought in
All those wild and reckless breezes
And in the backseats we just tried to find
Some room for our knees

And in the backseats we just tried to find some room to breathe
And in the backseats we just tried to find some room to breathe

And these cowboys all go crazy in the heat
Chasin' the lights and all the girls along the Santa Ana streets
They're just dyin' to meet
It meant nothin' to me

You know the summer always brought in
That wild and reckless breeze
And in the backseats we just tried to find
Some room for our knees

You know the summer always brought in
That wild and reckless breeze
And in the backseats we just tried to find
Some room for our knees

You know the summer always brought in
That wild and reckless breeze
And in the backseats we just tried to find
Some room for our knees, hey

My name is August West, and I love my Pearly Baker best more than my wine.
More than my wine - more than my maker, though he's no friend of mine.

What has happened to lyrics?..maybe I should start a thread?..I love some of the dance anthems etc. but the lyrics are mainly shit. Should it be called "Dumbing Down"

Tomorrow is Sunday, Monday is the day
that your Captain will call you and you must obey.
Your captain will call you it grieves my heart so,
Won't you let me go with you?
No, my love, no.

:D I ain't no fella! ,,,For you F.U.B.A.R

We are standing on the edge
On the edge of time
We are standing on the edge
On the edge of time
We are the warriors at the edge of time
We walk hand in hand with horror
We ride side by side with death
We are the warriors at the end of time
Over poisoned crystal deserts
Where the ruined towers shout
We march towards our dying scarlet sun
Death!
Death to life!
Death!
Death to time!
We bring sweet destruction now to everything
In our mirrored flashing armour
In our secret, hideous helms
We are the angels of our ruin
And we climb obsidian mountains
On our final, dreadful quest
Crossing lakes which cry with pain as we pass by
Death to all things living!
Holy death will cleanse the world!
Death, our standard!
Death, our only joy
We are the Warriors at the edge of time
Death to air and fire and water
Death to light and earth and sound
Death to anger, love and sadness
Death to death... and time... and space
And dead horses and dead riders
Seek the last retreats of life
Life betrayed us and we slay it
Corpses locked in battle
Dancing at the edge of time
It's cold at the edge of time
So cold on the edge of time

Even better! A bird Hawkfan, or Hawkbird, or birdfan, or, er summat.

(Show us yer tits ;) )

Yeh, I could never take that song at face value tbh - to me it seemed like he was mocking the working class, especially as he was riding around in chauffer driven Rolls Royce's and lying in bed for days in the name of 'peace'. Lazy cunt just couldn't be arsed to get up, that's all. ;)

The term 'working class hero' also seems kind of derogatory to me...

My interpretation has always been that on the one hand "a working class hero is something to be" - there is a certain quiet "heroism" in working hard to provide for you and yours. On the other hand the notion of the "working class hero" is a box created by the wealthy to patronise the poor and keep them trapped there - where "all fucking peasants" belong, of course. One of my favourite songs as it happens.

Yep. Tis a total dichotomy that song - and full of irony. But was it intentional, or accidental - only one way to find out....

I don't think there's the slightest chance of it being accidental given Lennon's well-known thoughts on such matters. Not to mention his frequently outstanding lyrical ability.

I would, however, love to see John Lennon as one half of a Harry Hill fight. Possibly taking on Yoko Ono's singing voice. I know which one my money would be on! =D
