Favourite song lyrics

Me staff has murdered giants
And me bag a long knife carries
For to cut mince pies from children's thighs
With which to feed the fairies

'I'll leave the door on the latch, if you ever come back,
There'll be a light in the hall and a key under the mat,
if you ever come back,
There'll be a smile on my face and the kettle on,
And it'll be just like you were never gone'.

What if the world was made of glazed doughnuts?
You would be like "Man, that's fuckin' sweet, I can't believe the world is made of doughnuts."

What if your hands were made of hotpockets?
You would be the first one to be eaten in survival situations.

What if your thumb roared like a dinosaur?
What if you peed out of your nose?
What if your face was shaped like Mexico, or trapezoids, or Texas and Hawaii?

What if the world was made of other worlds combined into a world,
just like the world you started with?
What if another world then ate the world made of doughnuts,
making all the doughnut people pissed?'

BBC News 24 keep playing this track at just the correct amount of time inbetween plays that the song begins to grow on you, and you have to google the lyrics to find out what it is, and who it's by; They are pretty clever with music in that way. <3

Andy Williams – The Impossible Dream Lyrics

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest, to follow that star,
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right without question or cause
To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To fight the unbeatable foe, to reach the unreachable star.

I haven't quite decided on the track yet as im yet to listen to it in its entirety. I'm saving that for a Guice night, sometime soon hopefully. Theres been far too many straight up stim nights. Far too many. But the snippet that the beep plays sounds more powerful every time. I cant recall ever liking an Andy Williams track before, tbh i cant recall ever knowingly hearing one either. The lyrics sound better in the context of the understated yet powerful singing. Quite hard to define all round really.

Edit: Just listened to it. Man the beeb definately chose the best bit for their snippet, from the first chorus onwards. Its very much Grandad Music taken in its entirety, which is quite a big disappointment. I wonder if there's a version stripped of the stringed accompniment, which takes away most of the tracks inherent raw power imo, and turn it into MOR slush. Some artists felt they had to 'sweeten' their music with strings, they'd have been better off keeping things raw, ala Johnny Cash imo. I suppose its just a matter of taste and personal preference really. But I hate to hear a potentially great track compromised in this way. :! Now If Johnny Cash has done a cover of this track, then we'll be talking.

Well, the doctor comes around with a face all bright,
And he says in a little while you'll be all right.
All he gives is a humbug pill,
A dose of dope and a great big bill --
Tell me how can a poor man stand such times and live?

LEONARD COHEN LYRICS

"The Partisan"

When they poured across the border
I was cautioned to surrender,
this I could not do;
I took my gun and vanished.
I have changed my name so often,
I've lost my wife and children
but I have many friends,
and some of them are with me.

An old woman gave us shelter,
kept us hidden in the garret,
then the soldiers came;
she died without a whisper.

There were three of us this morning
I'm the only one this evening
but I must go on;
the frontiers are my prison.

Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
through the graves the wind is blowing,
freedom soon will come;
then we'll come from the shadows.

Les Allemands étaient chez moi (The Germans were at my home)
ils m'ont dit "Résigne-toi" (They said, "Surrender,")
mais je n'ai pas pu (this I could not do)
j'ai repris mon arme (I took my weapon again)

J'ai changé cent fois de nom (I have changed names a hundred times)
j'ai perdu femme et enfants (I have lost wife and children)
mais j'ai tant d'amis (But I have so many friends)
j'ai la France entière (I have all of France)

Un vieil homme dans un grenier (An old man, in an attic)
pour la nuit nous a cachés (Hid us for the night)
les Allemands l'ont pris (The Germans captured him)
il est mort sans surprise (He died without surprise)

Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
through the graves the wind is blowing,
freedom soon will come;
then we'll come from the shadows.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN LYRICS
"Racing In The Street"

I got a sixty-nine Chevy with a 396
Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor
She's waiting tonight down in the parking lot
Outside the Seven-Eleven store
Me and my partner Sonny built her straight out of scratch
And he rides with me from town to town
We only run for the money got no strings attached
We shut 'em up and then we shut 'em down

Tonight, tonight the strip's just right
I wanna blow 'em off in my first heat
Summer's here and the time is right
For racing in the street

We take all the action we can meet
And we cover all the north east state
When the strip shuts down we run 'em in the street
From the fire roads to the interstate
Some guys they just give up living
And start dying little by little, piece by piece
Some guys come home from work and wash up
And go racing in the street

Tonight, tonight the strip's just right
I wanna blow 'em all out of their seats
Calling out around the world, we're going racing in the street

I met her on the strip three years ago
In a Camaro with this dude from L.A.
I blew that Camaro off my back and drove that little girl away
But now there's wrinkles around my baby's eyes
And she cries herself to sleep at night
When I come home the house is dark
She sighs "Baby did you make it all right"
She sits on the porch of her daddy's house
But all her pretty dreams are torn
She stares off alone into the night
With the eyes of one who hates for just being born
For all the shut down strangers and hot rod angels
Rumbling through this promised land
Tonight my baby and me we're gonna ride to the sea
And wash these sins off our hands

Tonight tonight the highway's bright
Out of our way mister you best keep
'Cause summer's here and the time is right
For racing in the street

There comes a time of starvation
It is true
If you believe in elevation
It will happen to you
You've got to reorganize
The channels of your thought
And leave behind that what you sought
You've got to redefine yourself
If you wish to find
The crystal visions of an open mind
And it's easy, it's easy, it's oh so easy to do

You've got to be in love if you want to see
It's a gift to you, it was given to me
The only false impression
Is a doubting mind
That hesitation will keep you far behind
For each bad place is just a place you've missed
So don't recall those that you've kissed
And it's easy, it's easy, it's oh so easy to do

When you expand your conscious
You will be amazed
At the lasting beauty of your days
But you better come now
So you can fill your part
Leave everything, now's the time to start
But beware of a yellow man
Who will turn your castles into sand
And it's easy, it's easy, it's oh so easy to do

Sing me to sleep, sing me to sleep.
I don't want to wake up on my own any more.
Sing to me..
There is a better world, there must be.

Once I had a dream, nothing else to do
Sat and played my mind in time with all of you
Got down in the road, crossed my heart and cried
When you told me how you'd love to live and not to die

Why, why, why?
I wish I were stoned out of my mind
Why, why, why, oh why?

Dreamed I saw a man walked upon the sea
Dreamed it once again and saw that he was me
Looking close at me I looked a lot like you
Knowing where to go but not quite what to do

Why, why, why?
I wish I were stoned out of my mind
Why, why, why, oh why?

Give me all your love in a smile
And I'll tell you what I'm thinking
Let me see the world through your eyes
And I'll show you where I'm sitting

Once I had a dream, nothing else to do
Sat and played my mind in time with all of you
Got down in the road, crossed my heart and cried
When you told me how you'd love to kill and not to die

Why, why, why?
I wish I were stoned out of my mind
Why, why, why, oh why?

Give me all your love in a smile
And I'll tell you what I'm thinking
Let me see the world through your eyes
And I'll show you where I'm sitting

Don't Worry

Don't worry about me
I've got all that I need
And I'm singing my song to the sky

You know how it feels
With the breeze of the sun in your eye
Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more
My smile, just as before
Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself
I need nobody else
I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

"If you're so funny, then why are you on your own tonight?
And if you're so clever, then why are you on your own tonight?
If you're so very entertaining, then why are you on your own tonight?
If you're so very good looking, then why do you sleep alone tonight?
I know, because tonight is just like every other night,
That's why you're on your own tonight,
With your triumphs and your charms,
While they're in each others' arms"

And so I sent some men to fight,
And one came back at dead of night,
Said he'd seen my enemy,
Said he looked just like me.

James Blunt I do believe? I'm glad that someone else is prepared to admit to at least liking that verse of lyrics. I really don't get all the hate for him. So he's posh, so fucking what? He still writes many a great track imo.

I absolutely adore his music, and he literally does not give a single fuck in his personal life.
His admission that his repackaging of an album every Christmas makes millions from peoples' stupidity just cemented his awesomeness.

There are reports of entire dinner trays covered in Cocaine at his parties, he's never denied a word. ;)

"I'm not calling for a second chance,
I'm screaming at the top of my voice,
Give me reason, but don't give me choice,
'Cause I'll just make the same mistakes again"

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
I can see all obstacles in my way.
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.
It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day.

Oh yes, I can make it now the pain is gone.
All of the bad feelings have disappeared.
Here is the rainbow I've been praying for.

It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day.

Look all around, there's nothing but blue skies.
Look straight ahead, there's nothing but blue skies. (Ies)

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
I can see all obstacles in my way.
Here's the rainbow I've been praying for.
It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day.
It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day.
Real, real, real, real bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day.
Yeah, hey, it's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day.

That's another great verse of lyrics you've quoted. He's a great songwriter in that some element of the music intensifies when the lyrics become deeper or more profound. I love nearly every track on his first 2 albums to this day. Nearly all 10/10s. I'm pleased to finally find someone else on eadd prepared to admit they also adore JB's music. It's really classy and clever rock music. Maybe too many middle class tossers who don't really like music bought his albums and played them at low volume as "background music"at their "dinner parties" thus diminishing whatever 'street cred' he may or may not ever have had. It's a great shame that most casual music fans think JB is deeply 'uncool' and wont give his brilliant music a chance. I'll be much more confident and bold next time someone asks me if i like JB. :D

She sang we wear the party all over our bodies and faces
What allows me to speak in wild abstractions
The senseless killings gifts God gives us have no one to love them
(Oh...)

It's the kind of thought that kills you twice on the way down
You might forget them but you're not nice they don't forget about you
How they claw me in my false or foster reflection
Is that my reflection in the Damascus play?
How they claw me in my foster or false reflection
(Am I to defy my waking master?)
(Warlocks)

You should call me sometime. I won't answer but, at least I'll know you care.
(How will you know it was me?)
Wha- you think I ain't got caller ID?

Guess I should be happy for you, for your success and all that
But your fame ain't got nothing for us
I supported you kid, back when no one else did (oh yeah, alright)
You know I waved your flag, back when no one else did
I just want things to be the way they used to be,
When you only set a place for me
(Oh...)

The great chorus of my skull is choking on their dulcer tones
Ten lashes on the ass of anyone who even tries and
Heaven's patience glaring down at us filling your womb with black butterflies

You don't have to try to steal no nothing from my heart
Because for you anything you want is always free (free free)
Send your freaky fantasies to my phone
Black condoms on vanilla ice cream cones
Now that I'm not a virgin to you you'll never walk alone
Far beyond the self-abuse of shame
I live to make you call my name
(Oh... call my name!)
(Call my name)

Guess I should be happy for you, for your success and all that
But your fame ain't got nothing for us
I was your booster babe, back when no one else cared (oh yeah, alright)
You know I celebrated you (I'm hard for you girl),
Back when no one else even thought to
I just want things to be the way they used to be
When you only saved a seat for me
(Come back! Come back!)

I feel so at peace
Why is the sky karma
I think I'm the one I got from

"Trouble is her only friend, and he's back again,
Makes her body older than it really is,
She says it's high time she went away
No one's got much to say in this town,
Trouble is the only way it's down,
Down, down.

As strong as you were,
Tender you'll go,
I'm watching you breathing for the last time,
A song for your heart,
But when it is quiet,
I know what it means and,
I'll Carry You Home"

Jon And Vangelis - I'll Find My Way Home

You ask me, "Where to begin?"
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me, "Where did I fall?"
I'll say I can't tell you when
But if my spirit is lost
How will I find what is near?
Don't question, I'm not alone
Somehow I'll find my way home

My sun shall rise in the east
So shall my heart be at peace
And if you're asking me when
I'll say it starts at the end
You know your will to be free
Is matched with love secretly
And talk will alter your prayer
Somehow you'll find you are there

Your friend is close by your side
And speaks in far ancient tongue
A season's wish will come true
All seasons begin with you
One world we all come from
One world we melt into one
Just hold my hand and we're there
Somehow we're going somewhere
Somehow we're going somewhere

You ask me, "Where to begin?"
Am I so lost in my sin?
You ask me, "Where did I fall?"
I'll say I can't tell you when
But if my spirit is strong
I know it can't be long
No questions I'm not alone
Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home

"I remember what you said, do you still believe?
I'm still just the same man, just the same man you denied
Everything has changed, am I same the same man in your eyes?
Now that I'm left as the last one with breath,
I can feel your regrets coming down,
I know that you're jaded, you're broken, you're faded,
I bet I look good to you,
Don't I look good to you now?"
