I did UTFSE but couldnt find much...

Anyway my favourite smoothie after a workout is:
1/2 cup rice milk
1/2 cup water
big scoop of bee pollen
scoop of chia seeds
tbsp coconut oil
tbsp lecithin granules
tbsp flax meal
tbsp green superfood (something like spirulina or vitamineral green etc)
heaping tbsp organic hemp protein
1 piece fruit (banana or berries or even avocado)

When I drink this after a big workout session I feel awesome! food for the soul. If I feel like this drink but havent worked out I just eliminate the protein and lower the bee pollen slightly and have it any time of day. Sometimes I sprinkle organic ground cinnamon on top as well - chai smoothie anyone!

what do you think of my recipe, and whats your favourite!?

I think you're recipe is missing a lot of delicious fruit. :P

When I made smoothies, it was simply fruit, fruit, fruit, and water (not ice due to sensitive teeth).

Typically I'd use bananas, blueberries, and something else. Sometimes just blueberries and bananas.

Unfortunately I really overdid it last summer with the smoothies and grew tired of 'em.

my favorite recipe:
~1/4 cup hemp protein powder
1 tbsp ground flax seed
handful blueberries
1/2 green apple
1 tbsp olive oil (can't taste it and i am on a grain free diet, so add fat wherever i can to get calories)
a slice of avocado (just a bit thickens up the smoothie significantly)
a lot of frozen spinach
a lot of kale
a bit of fresh ginger
a dash of cinnamon and stevia
enough water to get the consistency you want

2 Banana's
50g Oats
500ml Milk

(quantities may be a bit off)

A delicious, healthy banana smoothie with no sugar or horrid chemicals ;)

Very simple, very tasty and unbelievably healthy. Banana's and oats are 2 of the best sources of sustainable energy within easy reach.

I often empty a green tea-bag into it aswell, gives it a nice green grainy aesthetic aswell as an added health benefit

zomg i am a total peanut butter freak. favorite smoothie is chocolate almond milk, peanut butter, banana, and ice. yummmmmmmm.

I bought 2kg of Peanut Butter today...massive tubs! It's nothing but peanuts....100%! Crunchy style...

Incredibly healthy considering its got no added salt or sugar or anything, just whole skins on peanuts. It tastes really nice....nicer than the sugary varieties. Just been sitting here dipping oatcakes in it all night!

A great smoothie recipe:

  • A good hand-full or two of Raspberries,
  • 10 Strawberries,
  • 3 or 4 hand-full's Blueberries,
  • honey and sugar to sweeten and combat the acidity
  • then topped up with milk and ice and blended on high!

Those figures are sorta off the top of my head, so tweak it to your preference as you see fit.
WARNING! THIS SMOOTHIE IS INCREDIBLY HEALTHY - YOU MAY DAZZLE PEERS WITH YOUR RADIANT SKIN

Followed attempt4's recipe but substituted a little under a cup of blueberries and also added sunflower seed butter. Really great!

Never heard of sunflower seed butter! I love sunflower seeds....what's it like?

Do you mean you added more blueberries or less? I would have thought 3 handfulls of blueberries would be about a cup? Either way, I love blueberries so personally feel you can never have too much!

But yeah....glad you liked it. Extremely healthy :)

All the best

Sunflower seed butter (sunbutter for short) is like heaven, if such a place exists. :P

I highly suggest you get some if your waistline can take the extra calories. :P I know I'd go through a jar of it a week when I used to eat it.

ya'll are speaking my language.

i just got a vitamix which is amazing! I've been taking various dark leafy greens, water, and either fruit or raw honey and blending em up. Harvested a bunch of wild dandelion from a nice mountain canyon yesterday, delicious!

depending on my mood, here are some other ingredients:

raw cacoa
maca
goji berries
hulled hemp seed
chia seed
..any seed or nut really
bee pollen
spirulina or other algaes
vita mineral green
cinnamon
peanut butter
acai juice
any available fruit
and GREENS GREENS GREENS

I know they are expensive but vitamix is by far the best blender I've ever used...perhaps there are other quality highspeed blenders capable of rupturing the cell walls of greens.

smooth on :)

Can i use Porridge oats? Ive never tried that before and i love banana milkshakes made with couple of fresh bananas !

Porridge Oats is what I use my good man. I just buy Scottish Rolled Oats....go to your local Morrisons and get this 2kg bag for £1.77 in the cereals aisle in a yellow bag. Tesco also do it (Tesco Value Porridge Oats) but its a bit more expensive.

Tesco Value Oats are just as good as any other oats, so buy the cheapest you can find! Oats are oats, regardless of their packaging! The oats give it a really nice flavour and texture, so much better than just banana's and milk.

So yeah....every morning I wake up I have 100g Oats, 1L of milk, 2 Banana's, 5g Creatine and 30g Whey Protein. A great, healthy and incredibly filling way to start the day. IMO, that's one of the healthiest breakfast's anybody could ever have.....plenty of protein and carbs to break the fast, plenty of EFA's and a nice portion of fruit there too. Energy, protein and function all in one tasty smoothie!

I LOVE my vitamix. One of my meals every day is just a huge smoothie with tons of greens. Expensive, but worth every penny!

Do any of you notice energy crashes after consuming a high-fruit smoothie? I seem to remember being explained that there will be a dip from the sugar content so protein powder and some fat can help balanace that out.

Any thoughts' I'd be interesting in trying them out in the mornings again. it's a great refreshing way to start the day. But just fruits and veggies would be optimal they don't lead to a crash afterward.

yogurt, milk, ice(crushed)ice cream and fresh berries and bananas.
i'll bust open a few kavakava capsules and squeeze the dark goop stuff on the top of the smoothie mix.
blend until everything is mixd up. and ejnoy!

The short answer is 'no', I don't experience a crash. That being said i make a lot of smoothies with a dark leafy greens included which have a high fiber and protein content so maybe that is helping. Also, when I make a pure fruit smoothie I usually put a decent amount of hemp or flax oil in. So maybe I've been intuitively doing this....

Another way to avoid sugar crash from fruit is to continually consume it throughout the day. There is a movement in the raw/vegan community for a diet of high carbs based on fruit.

However, I want to stress again how good dark leafy greens are in smoothies. They are pretty much the perfect food for human health.

Lol What do you drink it out of , the pitcher?

Yep :) Straight out the blender jug ... or sometimes I just fill up my pint glass several times in a row until it's all done, but usually just chug it out the blender pitcher.

.

I experience a rush from it, but interestingly, no crash, certainly no crash like if I consumed an equivalent weight of refined white sugar.
I suppose I would liken it, in a very round-about way to chewing on a few coca leaves for a rush compared to snorting coke.
