Favorite DVD commentaries

All of Kevin smith films commentaries are classic!

Another one that comes to mind is Idle Hands
 
Kevin Smith's commentaries are by far the best I've ever heard. Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma have hilarious commentaries. Clerks commentary isn't quite as good as the others, but it's till entertaining. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back would've been better with more people on it I think. They only had Kevin, Scott Mosier, and Jay, they usually had Afflect, Lee, and Vincent Perera as well. The six of them together on the other movies is great.

The Dogma commentaries are nice since there's a regular commentary that's more humor related and a technical commentary for those more interested in how the film was made.
 
boogie nights(both versions are great...director commentary, and seperate actors commentary ...don cheadle, heather graham, luis guzman, william h. macy, julianne moore, john c. reilly, mark wahlberg, and melora walters),

the usual suspects( bryan singer , chris mcquarrie)

rushmore(criterion commentary with wes anderson, owen wilson, and jason schwartzman)

donnie darko ( just to hear jake gylenhaals christopher walken impression)
 
I was gonna say, pitt norton and fincher track is rather good. but then so is pitt fincher and freeman inserted for se7en as well, but if you ask me, pitt's track on oceans eleven is good as well. the man knows how to talk thru a movie, informative but fun, keeps you interested. boogie nights is good but I swear marky mark is sparking bowls all thru it. atleast sounds that way anyway

One of the Reservoir Dogs on the 10th anniversary can't remember who specifically
 
The Lord of the Rings commentaries are fantastic. Listening to Peter Jackson and cast members dish the inside story is almost like taking a film class. The Solaris commentary track with James Cameron and Stephen Soderbergh is also tops. The latest Spinal Tap DVD includes a commentary with the band members in character. Hilarious.

Before DVD commentaries came along so much of a movie's behind-the-scenes information was uncofirmed rumor and sometimes took years to filter down to the viewing public. DVD has changed all of this and made filmmaking much more accessible. While I still respect filmmakers who refuse to do commentaries, like Spielberg, you gotta love hearing things like David Spade explaining why there are no Van Halen songs in Joe Dirt.

the commentary with Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Jay Roach and Producer Jane Rosenthal is great

De Niro sounds like he's wasted - so funny
 
agree with the LOTR tracks, good interesting stuff, Fight Club's with Pitt Norton and Fincher is top notch as well but I'm a big fan of the tracks on the simpsons seasons

yeah. Why wouldn't he? lol .. after reading his last non-fictional book.. a collection of short stories, you can see how absolutely obsessed he is with Fight Club and Brad Pitt.

I liked Donnie Darko's commentary.

'cause i have the dvd and swear to god there's no palahniuk commentary on it. i've got fincher, pitt, norton and bonham-carter...but no palahniuk. is there another edition of the dvd?

and i just listened to baz luhrman's (et al) commentary on romeo + juliet and it's one of my favourites too. just enough info to keep people interested in the technical side of things, and just enough irreverance to keep it fun :)
