Bupe Fast Taper Advice Needed!

My cat has had a pain pill problem, on and off, for about 4 years. Currently, he takes 180mg of oxycodone a day (3 doses of 60mg). He doesn't think he takes a ridiculous amount as he enjoys a more subtle high so he can function throughout the day.

He's had enough of it now and wants to quit. He has a total of 20mg of Suboxone and wants to do a fast taper. He doesn't want to bother going back to the doctor after a few month hiatus, pay the $100, and pay for the script if he doesn't have to.

Does anyone have any experiences with taperring rather quickly? He was thinking something along the lines of:

Day 1: 3mg
Day 2: 3mg
Day 3. 3mg
Day 4: 2mg
Day 5: 2mg
Day 6: 2mg
Day 7: 1mg
Day 8: 1mg
Day 9: 1mg
Day 10: 1/2mg
Day 11: 1/2mg
Day 12: 1/2mg
Day 13: 1/4mg
Day 14: 1/4mg
Day 15: 1/4mg

My cat can easily get the last 1/4 if needed. Does this seem reasonable or will he need a high dose to start with?

I've done short tapers with bupe to come off heroin before, I think it works best if you keep it under a week. For the first 3 days I take them in 2mg increments as needed (probably 6,4,4) then on day 4 jump to 1mg increments as needed. For me day 2 is the worst and you might find that you need more than 3mgs. But its all about how your feeling; if your feeling pretty bad, dose. I've come off H with way less than 20mgs before and I wasn't 100%, but I was pretty much fine.

Taper looks good, but I would start with 2mg and end with .125mg. That's what I did when I quit opiates and I had a higher tolerance than you.

I agree that the taper is most certainly feasible and won't be difficult. Like was already said you want to get even lower so stopping is almost not noticeable, google up a liquid taper method for suboxone and you will find a good method for getting to doses down in the .1 mg range. I have used and currently am using the method of decreasing every 3-4 days the dose to 75% of what it was. That will be an even easier taper but obviously it will take a bit longer and requires a bit more of the medication.
