I’ll get straight to the point…
Every month I go to my doctor’s office for my monthly Suboxone; as requested, my doctor asks for a urine sample to make sure that I’m actually taking the Suboxone, and not abusing anything else. However, every single month since August of 2012, “Fiorinal” keeps coming up in my system in levels over 3,000 (normal levels should be 20). So my doctor is asking questions as to why this is happening, and I have no explanation because I don’t take Fiorinal or any other Barbiturates. Since August of 2012, I have regularly been going to my Dentist to get my teeth repaired from the damage I did to them (long story). My Dentist gives me Novocain (Procaine) for the root canals. As far as I know, Procaine is not a barbiturate. I do not drink alcohol, I don’t smoke weed (just cigarettes), nor have I done any (illegal) illicit drugs since 2010.
So, WHY is my urine test coming back with high levels of Barbiturates in it?
Current Prescribed Medications
- Suboxone 8mg (twice daily)
- Klonopin 1mg (@ night for sleep)
- Penicillin VK 500mg (4 times a day)
—————————————————————————
Current Over-the-Counter Meds
- Valerian Root 1200mg (@ night for sleep)
- Melatonin 10mg (@ night for sleep)
- Benadryl [Diphenhydramine] 75mg (@ night for sleep)
- Unisom [Doxylamine Succinate] 15-20mg (@ night for sleep)
- Afrin [Oxymetazoline HCl] 0.05% mist (3 times a day / as needed)
- Tylenol [Acetaminophen] 500-1500mg (5 times a day / as needed)
- Advil [Ibuprofen] 400-800mg (4 times a day / as needed)
- Aleve [Naproxen] 440mg (2 times a day / as needed / rarely)
- Sudafed PE [Phenylephrine] 10mg (rarely)
———————————————————————————————————————
Older Prescribed Medications
- Soma [Carisoprodol] 350mg (@ night for sleep)
- Xanax (Alprazolam) 2mg (4-6 times daily / as needed)
————————————————————————————
So now you have a list of all of the medications I am taking. I have been searching the internet, asking pharmacists, and even other doctors all month and I STILL can’t find anything as to why “Barbiturates” are in my urine! The only explanation I’ve gotten was this: “Unisom and Soma taken together can metabolize as a Barbiturate making a false positive in your drug test.”
My Pharmacist told me to stop taking the Xanax, Soma, and Unisom because all three of those can make a false positive for Barbiturates as well, and also I shouldn’t be taking those meds with my current meds (dangerous toxicity).
Someone please help me with this issue! I can’t stress enough how important this is! I can’t go back to my doctor again with a positive urine test for Barbiturates. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!
