I have been seeking all information I can about the ez test results and what they mean, but I am still not really clear. I have some pills that I tested twice and both times there was a 10-12 second delay before it the reagent turned dark black. On the second try i paid very close attention to see if there as smoke or puffs of any kind and neither I nor my friend who was helping me could see smoke. This does not seem to match result descriptions well enough for my comfort. I may just be over nervous, but better safe than sorry, right. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Yes, it can make a difference.
Was it kept cool and dark ?
What color does the liquid have ?
With a brownish (old) solution, the reaction may be a lot slower. However, traces of purple should still be visible.
Maybe you should try it with a new kit ;-)
