ok so even when i am high i find myself snapping at people around me over the littlest things. ive been sniffing oxycontin lately and was wondering if when u sniff/IV drugs ti causes a lot of agitation? would taking the drug as prescribed (oral) avoid this? its very weird bc u think that me being high and relaxed would allow me to brush it off and forget about things, but so is not the case. i also read somewhere that oxycodone is derived from thebaine (naturally stimulating in nature). do other opiates like morphin/heroin cause this irritability in u guys?

Oxycodone is the only opiate that does that to me (unless theres something mildley unreasonable going on). I remember 2 of my freinds and I took our first oxy and went riding to go swimming with a bunch of people and argued about the radio the entire way there, and once there we couldn't settle on witch girls we were trying to get, ect.

Witch is weird, hydrocodone is made from thebaine too. But does not produce this effect, and it is generally accepted the hydrocodone is more sedating that oxy.

Morphine will make you into the nicest person in the world though. I've plugged it many times, but when I got my wisdom teeth out I got a huge intravaneous dose (I kept waking up), when I finally came too they had my hands tied down because I was trying to hold hands with the nurse.

This happens to me occasionally as well. It coincides with times when I use less than I would like to; so, basically when I'm in the place between sober and high, I'm pissed. I bet if you think about it, this happens to you when you don't reach the state you were seeking.
The fact that thebaine is a precursor is irrelevant; none remains in the final product.

i think it is quite relevant. because when i did morphine irritability was not an issue at all. something has to explain this...

If it was a different experience, it was due to the differences in the drugs themselves, not their precursors. Once the synthesis is completed, the precursors no longer exist. If there was any excess due to the reaction requiring more thebaine than the other reactant, you better believe it was be filtered out long before it reached the public.
Basically, what I'm saying is the two different drugs are different because they're different fundamentally (i.e. molecularly). Also, take a look at your dosages of each drug, too.

I've never used oxycodone, but opiates do tend to make me extremely irritable. It doesn't happen a lot of the time I'm high, but is guaranteed during withdrawal or after coming down. It's quite unfortunate.

If hydrocodone doesn't cause this, and is also derived from thebaine, then what makes you believe that it has anything to do with thebaine at all? 8)

to tell u the truth ive never done hydrocodone (so i dont kno if i would get the same symptoms as oxycodone), that is why i made this topic to see if other opiates caused irritability like i am experiencing.

It happens to me too.......I get REALLY pissed off sometimes at absolutely nothing when I'm on opiates......Overall, heroin chills me out and relaxes me, but I do find it interesting how mentally, it tends to agitate me sometimes......usually it only happens when I am feeling stressed, not all the time....

Same shit happens to me. I will get extremely pissed over nothing. I try to stop my self when this happens and give my self a timeout. Take deep breaths and tell my self its just the drugs.
I get the worst when I am coming down from being on hydrocodone.

yea man i feel my chest getting tight and shortness of breath sometimes. i will literally snap its pretty crazy.

I'm not into the heavier opiates, but if I'm on my 300-400mg dose of codeine and someone interrupts my buzz, I will be an utter CUNT.

Go away fuck off and let me enjoy my buzz you bastards!

:)

(Probably because codeine is so nice and subtle, and peoples shit is too distracting!)

Non-stimulating precursers such as thebaine DOES affect the irratbility of the high, but it occurs with almost most all mu-agonists. Miles Davis was a hardcore heroin users a a notorious wife beater.

Its pretty much because opiates give you a false sense of well-being, and make you feel MORE powerfull than you actually are (ive never benched so much in my life, i didnt feel the burn in my muscles from the lactic acid nearly as much, so i was pumping up more weight than ever.

But, when i quit heroin cold turkey, i lost 50 pounds in two months, not healthy........

^agreed, it is very common for thebaine-derived opiates to cause marked irritability, expecially oxycodone. I have had some horrid problems with buprenorphine as well. Heroin was initially very sedating but eventually caused some real problems as I was snapping at everyone around me every time I shot.

Yes, and I think this is fine for a certain amount of time but eventually leads to worsening anxiety/irrability depending on amount/frequency of use and of course, everyone is different. I have definitely noticed worsening agitation with heroin use, even during relapses after months and months of sobriety.

Without a doubt, agitation increases. Heroin addiction, a completely seperete matter, has its own powerfull causes of anxiety, a beast of its own if you will........

Opiate addiction makes most anyone irritable, after you come off it even a little, if you don't STAY high, trust me, you will become VERY easily irritated. I have experienced this first hand along with many other close friends.

It almost feels as though the world is against you and you are about to crawl out fo your skin, it is an awful feeling, and that is the biggest reason I got myself out of that rut and into an MMT progam. I am just now after about 2 months, feeling better and leveling out after finding my dose at 60mgs methadone daily.

If you are prescribed Oxcontin, then you should definately be taking it as prescribed orally, it will sustain you longer and stay in your system a longer amount of time from the time release. Also with it being in your system constantly, it should help with the irritability and you will stop feeling the euphoria/rush and you will level out. I know this part sucks, but if you really need it for pain, then do yourself a favor and take it the way it is intended to be taken, and your problems will amazingly vanish.

Best of luck.

While I agree for the most part, not entirely about the statement that if you take as prescribed your problems will vanish. Sure it will be a hell of a lot better as a pain reliever and so forth if you take as recommended but you can still have many problems with long-term use. Tolerance builds, and there can still be some nast addiciton problems. Imagine taking 40mg ovycontin 3 times a day for 5 2 years and then forgeting your meds on a trip, I would imagine you would feel pretty awful. I am not trying to be argumentative, just offering a little different opinion and tossing a hypothetical situation out there to illustrate what I mean.

I used to feel very irritable on oxy and hydro, but once I got hooked, that all went away. I do get very emotional on the comedown, even shedding tears when I usually wouldn't. Funny thing though, unlike the most of you, I get PISSED OFF while on morphine....go figure.

I get the same thing, not all the time, but more often than not.
