Extreme toothache; what is useful?

Hey,

Half of a rather large tooth broke off in the middle of the night. (teeth grinding I think)

At any rate I woke up in the middle of the night with on the ceiling pain. If I go all emergency I would have to contact a dentist in the next two hours but uff that is my first second and third thought.

So far I have been doing frequent salt water rinses. (and they burn like hell on said tooths root/nerve w/e). In addition to that I have a fat cheek full of clove like chewing tobacco at all times.

Moving to actual chemicals I have bupe for pain but take 3mg a day so I figure it isn't gunna do much. Aspirin. Lidocaine. Obviously the third one was the go-to; however I feel it leaves the tooth in more pain when it wheres off whereas the cloves still feel healthy when the slight numbness w/e leaves. The bupe I have double dosed. I am thinking about doubling down on benzos too (dont do this unless you really know your body) but am wondering if there is anything better to do that I am missing. I have tried GHB and that seemed to make things worse; was hoping id pass out lol.

So this pain was emergency level; im gunna say an 8 - 8.5 (rather would have took an 'through and through' bullet on my leg fat level). Now id say its down to about a 5.5 (that is with everything and the sink thrown at it though)

Dentistry around sucks to a scary level. Any thoughts?

As far as I know if there is pain is probably infected. If there is an infection antibiothics will help a lot. Analgesia and anaestesia will help too. And benzos for the night to help sleep.
An infection could be a bad thing if its not treated.
Stay well and safe.

Oil of cloves might aid or a short while.

It probably won't help your type of pain much at a guess.
You'd need strong painkillers.

OraJel numbs the tooth/root

Ibuprofen 200mg liquid jel cap X 2 tall glass of water

Numbrino (Cocaine HCL)

Hehe If I had access to cocaine; well I probably still wouldnt use it. As I find with orajel the pain comes back worse than it was originally when the numbing dies down.

So here is what I did, bought tylenol and ibuprofen. Doubled down on my benzos and laid in a dark room with my head up. Today I would say the pain is a 4, maybe 3.5. That is significantly under half of when OP was made. I sure as hell wouldn't prefer a through and through today!

ANTIBIOTICS - THANK YOU MY GUY, TO THE WALKIN I GO. (how did my dumbass miss that) *I was kinda lookin for a way to kill the nerve tbh but I wont ask as that is usually a bad path.

Yeah, stuff cotton soaked in clove oil in there. It will get you through for a short while, but once the pain starts it’s gotta be pulled (or treated however you wish).

I have had lots of dental pain. When it gets that bad, you usually need antibiotics, like someone said above. They have mouthwashes for dental pain now too. It sounds like you've tried just about everything you can. Cloves are a good choice. If the lidocaine is making the pain worse, try switching to something without lidocaine. I like the kanka pens myself. I also have a 2% lidocaine mouthwash that I got from the DR. It helps but not as much as antibiotics. Doing the Tylenol, ibuprofen combo should help too. I wouldn't sit on it too long though. A lot of people don't realize how connected dental and physical health are. Dental problems can lead to serious health problems, such as endocarditis, heart disease, stroke. I only warn you because my ex, my children's father passed from a tooth infection that went to his brain. That's an extreme example but it is possible. Go somewhere, anywhere where someone can give you antibiotics. And then get that tooth treated.

diclofenac + paracetamol + dhc (dihydrocodeine) or any other opioid. Ibuprofen was not useful even 800mg + high dose tram did nothing against pain. Dissolvable diclofenac + tramadol = pain cured...i suffere tooth+ear pain for a few days every now and than..Also high dose magnesium helps

Honestly ibuprofen 800mg plus 1000mg Tylenol worked best for me, and it sounds weird but actual opiates like hydrocodine don’t help all with pain for me but they make me euphoric to where I just don’t care about it

Rub a sensitive toothpaste like sensodine (contains a numbing agent) over the site of the damage and then cover/plug the site with sugar free chewing gum. That trick got me through a 3 week vacation in Bali with a half decayed wisdom tooth.

Edit, late, sorry, didn't see the date. Hope you got it sorted. Tooth pain is the worst.

Fresh garlic clove, baking soda and salt pounded to a paste, wrapped in cheesecloth and place on infected area longer than you can stand it.
For quick pain let an aspirin or something "melt" in the area (takes a minute or so....)
Salt scrub/rinse.
Try to keep it antiseptic. 👍
See a dental expert?
Best,

If the tooth broke in half you will have a live exposed nerve. Nothing really fixes that except dental treatment.
Wel not anybody experiences teeth nerve pain. Even when it breaks or has cavities. like me. Put a drill on it without numbing it is when the pain starts for me. But that was more then 40 years ago, with todays slow drills better patient dentist communication, And no more of that toxic Amalgaan. Hated that blue stuff, felt like a magnet in my mouth under and above. Biting on aluminium, remember that ⚡

Did make eating a very slow proces, which was irritating the nurses in Detox, and while not actually very friendly. I was commanded to eat quicker, so whatever freaks worked there (a few) were no better then the Detoxers most were ok and a few just like them. So surrounded by a few devilish detoxers and employees. All got the same tricky treatment. They never asked me why my tempo was so slow btw, these kinda people seem just to get fueled by feeling in power. There a few over here too i noticed lately. .

But I had my share of fun as no one disses me, nothing they can do on me. They think they do, at least there little devil does. But purposely eating even slower was amusing. When there is nothing to do, making an fool out of bad people is time spend well. Just like cleaning the table or watching Ghost story's tlil late at night. And randomly taking a piss on each other, but then the funny way, to keep the place a bit alive.

solutions:
1. No longer available here Splat Toothpaste Silver [collaidal], beats any sensitive or lidocaine. When topically applied gone pain.
2. Natural antibiotic's as chemical kill all good and warrior bacteria in your mouth and intestines. So Ginger, Garlic/ specifically Allicine, Salvia/ Salie tea, Honey and lots of more. Anti-biotics are not to be used preventive. and naturals dont hurt the good ones and have positive other effects. So can be used preventive.
3. So most important a good dentist visit, and get it out/ over.
He can judge if anti-biotics are necessary. Tell him about the Bruxisme and get a tooth guard/ bit made.

Btw Anbesol also looks quite good as temporary relief. Drool 🤤 [drooling face]

edit: maybe some Red Vein Borneo powder for after the treatment.

The thing is though the OP said his tooth broke and he had instant extreme pain. So in this case the most likely scenerio is that he has an exposed nerve. He would need the remaining bit either pulled or incorporated into a dental reconstruction, and the latter is a major expensive procedure. I've had the exact same.

You're going to have to go to the dentist. There's no way around that. Until then, your best bet is likely topical anesthetics like Lidocaine. I would focus on numbing the area as opposed to trying to treat pain via a general route like NSAIDs. Oral analgesics will probably help, but the only thing that will fix it is getting into the dentist. If you went to the ER, I bet they would be willing to give you an injection that will render it completely numb while they figure out the best and most immediate solution.

Me too, luckily my nerve that must have been exposed, just did not give out any pain signals (my luck, but not normal to have no pain). Then after being send to a jaw dr who cut it in 4, and took it out in bits. Was to complicated for my dentist. so another 2 1/2 week delay in treatment

5 weeks of fear that it would fall apart in my mouth, before the appointement in the hospital. It was wobbly all the time. Somehow it kept itself standing 🤙

But for the OP a emergency dental visit would be the first thing, and most important to do. And ask about your Bruxisme if its confirmed a mouth guard is essential or you keep on grinding your teeth, which is causing at least partly the decay.
One part you can at least have influence on. A mouthgard, to prevent future problems would be second on my list, a dentist/ mouth hygenist can make one for you.
