Opioids Extreme Constipation - is this normal?

milk of magnesia works wonders! i cant believe how well it works. get the cherry flavoured brand name of it. ive been taking opes for years and had hella constipation, and this is the BEST stufff. no cramping or nothing. i use it often and my doc said its safe to take in low doses on a daily basis. though for the record i take the maximum dose usuallly so i dont take it every day. but for sure try that!

You need to eat more fruit/vegatbles and other sources of fiber (i eat frosted mini wheats a lot).

I had your problem for a while until I finally asked my mom what to do and she told me i need more fiber and healthy foods in my diet and it worked. I also took some Milk of Magnesium for 2 days before I took my shit that got stuck. Since then I've been shitting once a day and its been much easier.

I always wait in the morning to take a shit before I use. It kinda sucks this was in the morning but at least you know your cleaning yourself out each day. Trust me you will shit if you wait long enough in the morning. It used to take me about an hour of being awake without any opiates to finally shit. Its also a good habit to get into if you plan on using for a while.

i can definitely relate on this subject. i've had GI issues my entire life. before i even knew what opiates were i was only going maybe twice a week. once i started regularly using opiates, it only became worse! i even had to go to the ER one time because i thought i had a bowel obstruction. not fun.

anyway, here's a few tips. most of them have probably already been posted, but i'm too lazy to read through them all :p

-stay hydrated! this is number one. drink as much water as you can every day. i personally hate water, but it's really necessary.
-i wouldn't recommend high fiber intake. this will actually make the problem worse. instead eat lots of fruits and veggies.
-if you're not really an eater while on opiates (some people get sick or just don't eat on opiates) go for those Ensure drinks.
-work out. this will get everything moving. i'm not saying you have to go to the gym and do intense work outs everyday- even just going for a walk will help.
-mineral oil. it can be taken orally to prevent bum busting bowel movements, or if you are having extreme difficulties while on the pot- put it in an enema. this will soften and break up the mass of stool and will also lubricate everything and make for a smoother experience.

there's many more tricks, but these basics should really help. keep in mind that preventing extreme opiate constipation is the key. stool softeners can be taken daily for periods of time without causing dependency. laxatives on the other hand, you should try to stay away from. taking laxatives too often or for prolonged periods of time can cause megacolon, a condition you do not want. opiate constipation is really serious as it can cause megacolon itself and can lead to bowel obstruction which can require surgical intervention. just try to remember to take preventative measures every day!

I get constipated really bad too hurts like a mother fucker getting it out, not to mention I usually end up flooding the toilet when my shit is too big. What I try and do is every morning I wake up try not to take any opies for a while until I do take a shit, about an hour or two.

Hmm I noticed the OP hasn't responded since his initial post.

Maybe he's been stuck on the can ever since...

I find that after a while of using your body gets used to it and the constipation problems become less of an issue, at least thats what happen to me.

But hey look at the bright side - when you only poop once a week and it comes out like a brick snake that one roll of toilet paper is going to last forever!

On the other hand, if you quit or lower your dosage, you're gonna need to replace that toilet paper with a paper towel dispenser...
