Swims current method to date, anyone have a method that differs for us pills or foreign. Swim is trying to put together a universal method again.
For this extraction you will need:
Various glass jars
1 gallon distilled water
Equate 96 count Pseudoephedrine pills
Acetone
Cold Methanol
Tolunene/Xylene
Naptha/Lighter fluid
A hot plate/Electric burner
Coffee filters
Plastic or Metal strainer
Stir rod/stirring metal device(preferably glass)
Step #1 - Getting the red off
I use this method of getting the red off and its very effective, but you can use any method at this point just rememeber some methods can cause yields to suffer.
Take you pills and put them in a small glass jar with anywhere from 5 to 10 ml of distilled water. swirl it around a couple of times till the pills stick to the jar. Flood the jar with anything above 200 ml of Acetone. Cap it and shake well for about 1 and a half minutes. Pour them out into your strainer, and pour another 100 ml of Acetone over them 20 ml at a time. Shake the pills after each 20 ml. They should be no red stuck and they should still be perfect condition, a light pinkish color.
Step #2 - Methanol pull
Take your pills and put them in a medium size glass jar. Then add 150 ml of your ****COLD**** Methanol. Shake it up let it settle for a few minutes. While your waiting soak 2 of those filters in Methanol. Decant off the top layer through those filters you got ready before its okay if you get just a little bit of sediment but not alot. repeat this process 2-3 times depending on the amount of pills.
Step #3 - Evaporation
After you have completed that you can evap your own way or you can take this method. Its not the best way of evap but it works. Take your methanol+E solution and place it on your hot plate to where its right below boiling, and put a fan about 9 inches above it blowing across the surface. This should take about an hour but keep an eye on it.
Step #4 - Boiling in Toluene
You E should be evaporated take it and put it in 300 ml of Toluene and bring it to a slow boil. If you are indoors at this time ventilate before proceeding. Place a fan blowing over the sruface the same as last time. Once your at a slow boil drip in 50 ml of Acetone 5 ml at a time. Stir after you add it each time. When you are done adding it all boil for 5 - 10 mintues additional. Presoak two filters with Toluene. Then filter through the presoaked filters. Splash it with about 100 ml of Acetone in 20 ml bursts.
Step #5 - Hot Naptha wash
Ok when this has dried throw 300ml of Naptha on your hot plate till it gets warm or just before steaming. ***BE CAREFUL DO NOT OVERHEAT***. Now grab a medium size jar and place your E in it with the hot Naptha and swirl it around for a good minute or 2. Then soak 2 filters in Naptha and filter the hot Naptha through your filters. Then splash about 100ml of acetone over your E in 20 ml bursts and let dry.
This takes care of all the fillers in those pills, Swim has tried it and got a 70 percent yield his first time, so thats the projected average yield. Swim sees a 80-85 as possible but nothing over that.
