Opioids Extraction gone wrong?

Been doing CWE for about 5 years now, pretty regular basis (at least 3 times a month, often more). As such, have developed a pretty big tolerance for codeine, doing CWE with no less than 64 tablets. Every extraction is done carefully and patiently, each one taking roughly 2 hours from dissolving tablets to ingestion. Last night, however, the finished solution tasted strange. Usually the solution is bitter but very palatable. Last night the solution was sort of “milky” tasting, almost chalky. Different than usual, anyway.

Roughly 3-4 hours after ingestion, experienced severe diarrhoea for the first time ever on codeine. Usually, the side effects are the opposite, eg 24 hours of mild constipation. This was entirely different. It was accompanied by fairly bad stomach cramps and bloating. The feeling was not unlike that experienced after downing a 100mL bottle of Rikodeine (dihydrocodeine) cough syrup, which contains the laxative ingredient Sorbitol.

So, looking for an explanation as to why suddenly these side effects occurred. The CWE was done in the exact same way done hundreds of times before, nothing changed except the solution at the end of the process tasted weird. Are they adding something into the pills lately to try and deter CWE??

Umm, before i even start reading this... Change that SWIM shit. Your going to piss people off doing that. This is BL everyone knows its you, you arnt doing anything by saying SWIM. A mod will get pissed if they see that. ( I know this cause they got mad at me for the same thing just trying to help ya out)

What probably happened man, was some tylenol got into your mixture. More than you normally have at least. That explains the milky color and the chalk taste. That much tylenol will give you diarrhea and really fuck you stomach up. I'd guess your CWE was a little less perfect this time. Hope this helps dude.

LOL apologies for the "SWIM shit" man, I'm new here and that term is in a lot of the threads I read. Thanks for the heads up and reply, have edited the post and I'll keep in mind not to use SWIM nexr time :)

Yeah it did. Little scary if thats what happened, given that the paracetamol in 64 tablets is more than enough to kill. The solution was a bit more cloudy than usual...maybe I rushed it a bit or something..

What do you use to filter the solution? It certainly sounds like you have a leak somewhere and APAP got into your end result. "cloudy" and "milky" are two words often used when someone is describing a botched CWE.

I use two white coffee filters, folded one inside the other, in a plastic funnel. I'm thinking maybe I inadvertently rushed last night's CWE though. It was definitely cloudier than usual. A good wake up call I think. I felt horrid all night.

I would have you liver function checked out. Paracetamol (Tylenol) is hepatoxic in high doses. Guess it would be hard to assess the proportion that leeaked through, could probably work out buy drying and weighing the redsidue on thye filter pads.

That would be hard now, the residue left in the filters is on its way to a landfill. It's been 24 hours now since dosing and I feel okay. I'll put it down to a rushed extraction, and say, lesson learned.

I think a liver function test would be a good idea to be safe, it's only high doses of paracetamol that causes stomach pain, bloated stomach, cramps, runs etc. Even if you're feeling better now the sooner you get it done the better, for your peace of mind more than anything.

I would definitely go get tested as liver damage is often without many symptoms until it is too late. I don't want to freak you out or cause any unnecessary anxiety, but its best to be cautious.

^It can take awhile for the real problems to manifest themselves with an APAP overdose, but I'm not sure exactly how long. Getting quick blood tests done couldn't hurt at all, though.

If you're feeling fine 48-72 hours afterwards, you're OK. APAP overdose/liver failure is pretty self evident and (from anecdotal evidence) very, very painful, so I don't think you'd mistake it.

People that dont use drugs also get diarrhoea and stomach cramps it depends on a whole load of other factors such as diet and lifestyle, I think as this only happened once it was just co-incidence.

Thanks for the replies so far everyone. I madly googled paracetamol/APAP overdose symptoms last night and I have none of them, (and have had no other symptoms other than the initial gut pains and runs a few hours after dosing that I mentioned) so I think I'm okay. The solution wasnt *that* milky and it certainly had no solids in it - if it had, I would of re-filtered or just chucked it. So basically if it was indeed a para/apap OD it wasnt a huge one. But...it's probably fair to say I have gotten a little bit lazy with my CWEs after doing so damn many of them. I'll be super-freakin-duper careful again from now on.

^Thanks Oxide.
Another thing maybe worth a mention is that the generic brand codeine/paracetamol tablets I used contain a substance called Croscarmellose sodium, which is "partially soluble" in water and is also a "bulk laxative". Stands to reason that if it is soluble at all, a significant amount ends up in the finished solution of a CWE. (Though if this stuff was to blame for what happened to me, it is strange that I have never had a laxative reaction to any other CWE I have done, and I have used this exact same brand dozens of times).
Anyway...just thought it might be worth a mention. Croscarmellose sodium is relatively harmless but figured the more ppl know about what they are putting into their bodies doing CWEs, the better.
