Extracting DXM crystals from cough syrup?

I have a 100mL bottle of Benylin extra strength. I read this and its about extracting the DMX crystals, but i don't think it's really this easy:

Buy an empty soda bottle at least a 2 liter, a 3 liter would work even better though , fill it up with just plain water, dump in the cough syrup shake it up and then leave it sit for an hour or so, when you come back all the dextromethrophan (the active ingredient) well be sitting in crystal form on the bottom, so to drain the water off now, just take a knife, and slowly cut the bottle from top to bottom releasing the liquid slowly enough that it doesnt suck the crystals out with it. Now there ya go pure DXM crystal, dont have to worry about the nasty syrup taste, the crystals are more soluble in alcohol so if you want to make it easier to drink mix it with a shot or 2 of some strong liquor and you will soon be on your way. Have fun, and please be responsible. Oh and no your not gonna die, just dont mix with other stuff, be smart use common sense.

Would that really work with my cough syrup, or any syrup for that matter?
