So long story short I found this old kit that said doctors emergency kit, I opened it to see a bunch of old ampules and started looking for the goodies. The only thing of value happened to be a 30mg of pentazocine. The expiration date says 03-1980, could this be dangerous if used? And I don't do needles so if it might be safe to use, could I drink it or snort the liquid somehow?

Pretty relevant:

Pentazocine tablets should be taken by mouth. Do not try to dissolve and inject the tablets. Injecting pentazocine may cause serious health problems or death. Naloxone is added to the tablets so that people who inject dissolved tablets will not experience the desired effects of pentazocine.

IDK why they would have ampules of a drug you can't inject though.. but that tells you it's at least orally active. If it's like most other drugs it should still be fine. Although solutions are known to degrade faster than pills, pharm drugs usually stay active for extremely long times. I don't know about this particular drug though, seems like it's not a typical opioid

They still make Talwin for IV, IM and SC use here in Canada. Though i don't know anyone who has had anything but the pills since the 80's they still do make the ampules for injection. And they are the 30mg/ML dosage as well.

Talwin is a weird atypical opioid rarely used nowadays. It's a mixed Mu antagonist/agonist and a Kappa agonist as well. It's not a great opioid from what i have heard and if you are addicted to Mu agonist opioids you will go right into opiate withdrawal.

I am not sure if i would try and inject a ampule that expired before i was born though. Hold the amp up to a light to see if there is any cloudiness or any particles and if there are don't even think about IVing it. I think i would just take it orally because IVing a amp that's 33 years old can not be good for you.

^ id go with taking orally (maybe plugging as well?) and keep the empty amp as a souvenir.
