I still have some Xanax XR 1mg tablets which have been prescribed to me a while ago. The expiration date on them is september 2011. Is it still safe to take these or should I ask my doctor to write a new prescription?

Should be fine to take them, worst case scenario they may have lost some of their purity, but since it's only a few months, even that you don't need to worry too much about.

Agreed! Depending on how old they are they may or may not have lost any potency. In your case, the pills will be at full strength because they only expired in September 2011. It takes a lot longer for any serious % of a pills potency to be lost.

It shouldn't be actually dangerous, but we can't say for sure if they will have lost potency or not. If in doubt get a new prescription. This has been answered now and we've had similar threads recently so.. closed :)

Pm me with any queries :)
