Experiences with music festivals?

Its a mixture of everything arts/music/drugs/crazy people and its huge in terms of getting around and huge in terms of people there. I found it pretty impossible to see everything there was at the festival. Also you gotta take into account its in the desert so be prepared.

Stupid ? I know, but is there a lot of hooking up there? I would it be a good place 2 meet a s/o?

I think it would be an awesome place to meet a future s/o. There is a lot of communal love in that everyone is usually happy and outgoing. I think a festival is good because you get to see the wild side of the person right off the bat and you know what to expect. People are there for hooking up and meeting people. Id say yes good idea. Plus you meet a girl one day and hang out with them all day seeing all the crazy shit and you can walk around together all day and not see the same things twice. Its awesome.

I went to nocturnal fest Texas the first 2 years and both times it was amazing. The people, the music, the drugs. Simply amazing. It is thrown in a town with a population of about 5,000 people , and the festival brings around 20,000 each night. I mainly love the attitude of people you meet.

Rockdale Texas is the town. The people that live there pretty much know what to expect and they are simply amazing. Very nice.

Other than that I went to luv-fest in little rock around 2002 or so and it was my first fest and it was awesome. Lots of fun and the first time I seen a laser that spelled stuff out and did different stuff like that. I remember thinking that I should have some sort of special goggles or something on that way my eyes weren't damaged( MDMA ) lmao

Edit : also went to future fest the only 2 years they had that, first year was in Austin at the expo center, and the second was the same venue in rockdale that they have nocturnal fest. The venue is actually a park with a river running through it and it is nothing short of spectacular.

Making plans for ultra this year in march and counterpoint outside of atlanta

Did Electric Zoo last year, cops were everywhere, but people were pretty open about toking and rolling, although I couldn't find anything good to buy myself. Great music, but you'd probably need to find stuff beforehand, easy to get it in. I've heard Ultra is pretty good and a bit easier to find stuff at, if you're not awkward as hell and afraid of getting busted, like me. Line up looks sick this year.

Festivals, I remember them well...

I'm a 50 year old veteran of music festivals. Some of the stories I've been reading bring back a lot of memories. Good smoke, half naked women, music to float away on. I sat through torrential rain, mud, burning hot temps, wind storms and loved them all. I loved them so much I even found a way to get in free by working as a Certified First Responder. That's when I saw the darker side of festivals...

OD's, alcohol poisoning, bad trips, dehydration, heat stroke. I performed CPR many times, once on a kid who bought heroin from some SOB who added who knows what type of cut to it. Me and another CFR once held a kid in a bear hug as he was thrashing around on a bad trip. I was puked on, spit at, threatened, the whole nine yards. You can imagine how hard it is to carry someone on a stretcher through people who won't give way because their favorite band is playing. Another time we almost lost someone because they thought the best way to hydrate (on a scorching hot day) was to drink a 5th of lime vodka. I know because it ended up on me.

I'm not trying to be a buzz kill but PLEASE be careful at these shows. Know your limits. Enjoy a few bears, but have some water too, make that lots of water. I saw too many people nearly die (if it wasn't for medical intervention) due to buying bad crap from some bastard who only cared about your money.

BE SMART & BE SAFE!

^ Thanks for sharing that.

I was on LSD and watched a guy get lifeflighted out of a festival just to die at a hospital.

A lot of times, people think that they can take a ridiculous amount of drugs/alcohol at a festival and everything be perfectly fine, when that's often not the case whatsoever.

Dude, no offense, but I'm fucking cracking up at your post over here. The way you sound all old and crotchety, I expected you to drop that you were like 53 or something. But fucking 26? You only live once man, go experience some new, fun shit. There are SO MANY festies that to say you don't care for the bands is insane, just look around and I can almost guarantee you'll find one exactly suited to your tastes. What do you like, oldschool jam rock style shit? Allgood is right up your alley. EDM? Pretty much any summer festival haha.

There was just one in CA called I think Outside Lands that had everything from EDM icons like Justice to straight-up icons like Stevie Wonder, and everything in between (Jack White, Metallica, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, Beck, Norah Jones... literally everything). The camping thing I can understand a little, but camping is THE SHIT, why wouldn't you want to go? Just buy an air mattress and some amenities before if comfort is the issue, you can live like you're at home for super cheap while camping these days.

Plus, if you like drugs (which, crazy assumption here at BL I know!), they should be right up your alley. I know people are saying it would be easy to get ripped off, but if you're not stupid as shit, you'd be surprised at how few of the people are out to rip others off. There's often a whole feeling of "family" and "unity" at most of these types of things, so peoples' consciences tend to keep them in check when there's no outside reason (imagine that).

To the topic at hand, I'm glad to have come across this thread. I was thinking about making a bluelight thread, then just google searched "Weed at North Coast" haha, this thread was one of the first to pop up (I love you guys, you know that?). I just got my tickets for North Coast, and it will be my first festival inside city limits, so I wasn't sure how sketchy it would be to try and smoke there. Getting shit in I'm not worried about, just bringing enough for two people. As much as I love camping out for shows, I'm pretty excited to have a nice hotel to go back to and recuperate in the like 6 hour stretch between after parties and the next day... a hot tub and a soft ass bed while my face is melting off sounds like a nice way to chill haha.

bro i lived more of life in my 26years then most people who are 50have. i went to my first concert when i was like 12 and it was korn. ive been to enough ozzfests(4) and warped tours(6) and lolla(3) and the gathering(1) and few other all day concerts, that i dont need to do that shit anymore. i did that shit when those fests wrent the cool thing to do and there was 2everymonth to go to. it was fun when i was 17 but not anymore.

i from chicago, camping was fun when i was like 10 and but now i realize its just a poor mans excuse of a vacation, fuck all that. i dont do the whole sleeping in tents thing anymore, or having to share a shower with 5000other people. even though most dont shower for those couple of days.. i dont take drugs that make me hallucinate/tripout/speed or pretty much fuck with my mind anymore caUSE i did all that shit in highschool when most of yall who are still doing those drugs now, were being hypocrites and talking shit to us who did...

so now for me its one day fests or just normal concerts. like i said ill still go to lolla cause i can go home and sleep in my bed after or better yet i know people with condos on LSD and i can just stay there and walk to lolla. and i can keep going about why i dont do these things anymore but its not worth it cause i dont even kjow if you still are around to post and really cause it doesnt matte reven if you are.

Chinky, camping is not a poor mans vacation only in your opinion it is. Have you ever drove out into the forest and camped where you could do anything you wanted and the nearest people are over 20 miles away? Your type of camping was prolly in an organized campground that looked like a trailer park with everyone camped right next to eachother.

hey everyone

Only four words of advice I can give you: BUY A TEST KIT (and know how to use it!)

Ultra is ultra-shady.

In general though festivals are AMAZING. Never had a bad time, but I chose carefully where I go; in my opinion the movement of raves/EDM to the festival scene was bad move and brought a lot of that city grime to a more friendly jammy environment. Not saying ravers are more grimey than hippies/tree huggers/whatever, I'm saying it's a different scene and they clash.

My first big festival was in Arkansas in 2012, drove 1000 miles to be there and it was so worth it, great vibes and great people.
