i hear conflicting reports on tolerance and long acting benzos vs short acting benzos.
can anybody provide me with the definitive answers please?
DJsim said:BTW, for those interested in knowing how benzo tolerance develops (I have 5 minutes to spare, so why not share....):
The GABA-A receptor is an ion channel which has an orthosteric site which binds GABA and a number of allosteric sites. When GABA binds to the orthosteric site the channel opens briefly allowing an influx of Cl- ions into the neuron causing hyperpolarisation (inhibition of neuronal firing). Allosteric sites bind modulators such as benzos which potentiates the channel-opening effect of GABA.
The ion channel consists of 5 subunits (pentameric); 2 alpha subunits, 2 beta subunits and a gamma subunit. The benzo allosteric site is at the alpha-gamma subunit interface, and it is here that benzos stick to the complex and in doing so, change the shape of the GABA-A receptor enough so that it is now more efficient at allowing Cl- influx, but only when endogenous GABA binds to the orthosteric site. What this means is that on their own, benzos have no effect; they need the endogenous GABA to have their effect (this is what makes benzos so safe on their own).
Benzo tolerance probably arises when the neuron attempts to counteract the benzos action by changing the protein subunits that make up the GABA-A ion channel. When there is no longer an alpha and a gamma subunit next to each other, the benzo allosteric site no longer exists. This explains why there is incomplete cross tolerance between barbs, z-drugs (like zolpidem), and benzos.
Class dismissed!
no seriously i type like that when im straight.15mg xanax would make anyone spell bad to say it is because your typing to fast and not cause your high as hell is diliusional you need to decrease your tolerance its gunna suck for a few weeks but its better then running out on your current dosage's i think if you go from takeing 15mg xanax to nothing you will either kill yourself or wish you could kill yourself benzos are fun but there the worst drug to run out of
Have you tried Mirtazapine? Talk to your doctor about it.
It is one of the best drugs to get your benzo tolerance down whilst helping with your insomnia/anxiety/depression.
I really think you should consider another drug/therapy if you are not getting the desired effects from your benzo use. You are flogging a dead horse if you keep up your current dosing. I assume you are also buying your lollies off the street as no doctor would prescribe the menu of beans that you have available.
Also note that benzos with a short half-life are not going to help your problem.
If you are trying to get high off of your beans, then you might want to try something fun like sky diving or bungee jumping instead of sitting in the house taking drugs and asking if more will make the situation more enjoyable...
In my experience an "I'm always right" kind of attitude is almost always indicative of too high a dose of benzos.
im sorry were you refering to me?
no seriously i type like that when im straight.
i ty to type faster than my fingers let me and the cant be bothered to correct my mistakes

Is it just me, or does this thread seem like one hell of a LOLcano?

thanks for the info/advice,but ive tried many many antihistamines and none of them work as a sleep aidIf you can:
1. Go without any Benzos for as long as possible.
2. Get some Quetiapine (Seroquel) or Hydroxyzine (Atarax) to use as a sedatory for Anxiety & sleep problems.
3. If your Anxiety is still really, really bad after taking one of those up there ^ then take the smallest possible dose of a long-acting Benzo (Diazepam, Clonazepam etc.) and leave it at that.
4. Carry this on, using as little Benzos as you can, for months and eventually your tolerance will go down. But it will take a long, long time. Probably closer to a year than a few months.
laugh away im not easily offended :D and to mark this thread out in 'the best of bluelight i would be most privilegedIs it just me, or does this thread seem like one hell of a LOLcano?

%)At the expense of what?
The OP may actually have a real problem that needs dealing with, and most likely he/she is not getting the proper medical supervision they need regarding the dangers of benzo withdrawal.
So, even though this situation might sound like something we should laugh at, it most certainly could turn out to be a disaster if not managed properly.
It is the primary purpose of BL to give good, solid, Harm Reduction advice. We have done this, and hopefully the OP can make some changes and keep us updated.
The last thing we want if for someone to feel like they have lost this avenue to gain knowledge about their situation and end up dead.
