How likely is it that one who has no knowledge of chemistry let alone manufacturing of a chemical could harm themselves in the shake'n'bake method of producing some tweaksauce? The supplies one can obtain quickly, but their main concern is avoiding an explosion. Would one say it is safe enough for a cautious, discerning mind?
 
Look I'm not asking for any tips on HOW to produce anything. I am asking for a tip on harm reduction pertaining to a chemical. A simple response of "yes a cautious, above average intelligence mind can safely perform a fruitful 'shake n bake' no problem" from someone who knows their shit.

News articles make it seem like you could potentially be headed to the burn unit of the nearest hospital if you attempt this method, let alone any method of cookin'. I want to know how likely it is this could happen, does one have to not be on point 100% with the cooking to be at risk or could one be at risk even after taking every precaution. Is this simply a scare tactic by the media?

Perhaps we need to hire a minion to perform this extraction. Was truly hoping to perform a simple basement cook tonight, and we probably still will, but getting on our hands on a little shake n bake helper seems preferred. And so I bid you all a good evening.
 
Only someone with a degree in chemistry can safely cook methamphetamine. This urban legend about hillbillies with no experience successfully creating meth with pseudoephedrine and chemicals they bought from a fucking hardware store is all bullshit, don't believe a word of it. Best case scenario is you will create bunk product, worst case scenario is you will kill yourself. Don't even attempt it.

Unfortunately I have to say your post is the best option for harm reduction. Unfortunate because we believe it is actually quite easy to perform a standard shake and bake. And so it is with due honor that we now proceed to the hardware store for a past due visit to acquire tools that will liberate the current state of affairs regarding stimulants in this town. With due honor indeed.

It is very likely to cause harm, shake and bake produces very low quality meth with many leftover precursors, smoking meth produced this way can seriously burn the throat and burn black (neither of which pure meth does), not to mention the risk of inhaling poisonous chemicals and starting a fire while in production. Spend this extra time you have to get a job (or another job) and use the money to buy real meth.
 
@ rio fantastic- That is 100% false, people do cook up meth... that's what shake n bake is. I've litteraly watched my coke dealer make shake n bake, well sorta... I got outta there ASAP. This is very common in the US, predominantly the south but since there's a real meth problem in SoCal people do it here as well. Meth is ALOT more prevalent in the US compared to the UK.
 
Shake and bake is pretty inadvisable, while it is true that a lot of people do it as far as I am aware there is a definite risk of explosion. I am pretty sure that you have to let out vapour and/or gas while it is cooking to prevent the pressure from building up too much and cause an explosion, I imagine that releasing the gases or vapours and breathing them in is bad for your health.

I don't think shake and bake yields very pure methamphetamine and by using it you are probably putting a bunch of toxic shit in your body.

I beliece both sides are right in this case, ive had some dirty better than some ice...let it be noted i do live in the south, so ye there are some fuckin morons round here that do stupid thing just like any part of the world. But if you stay simple with the sNb method and dont cut it or do some dumb ass tweaker shit. Then u willl have a average grade product. NEVER FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ONLINE! THAT WILL GET YOU KILLED. EITHER IDIOT CLUCK TWEAKERS OR COPS POST THOSE...THE LESS YOU HAVE TO USE THE BETTER
 
A person who is a non-chemist needs someone who has successfully performed said reaction before to show them the correct steps to take. Otherwise, it's not safe. Don't forget to add a tablespoon or two of 3% OTC hydrogen peroxide to the reaction mixture to active it, and also you should filter your final product with anhydrous acetone to remove many of the impurities inherent in the shake and bake reaction. Without that filtration, which can remove 50% by weight of your impure product, the shake and bake method produces only averagely good methamphetamine hydrochloride. The readily available fertilizer known as ammonium nitrate should be used in place of anhydrous ammonia, which is now hard to obtain. The HCl gassing step to convert the freebase to its water soluble HCl salt should be carried out in a well ventilated area, such as outdoors. The most common dangers involving this clandestine operation are that you'll blow yourself up, burn yourself with HCl vapors, or go to prison, but hey, methamphetamine gives you a great high!
 
this is heading towards synthesis discussion and the clear consensus seems to be that this method of synthesizing methamphetamine is unsafe.
