Exercising on stimulants

I have been searching, but found nothing directly related to my question. As someone who is a stimulant, xanax, and heroin user and also an extremely active person (biking, x-skiing, rock climbing, etc...), how dangerous is it to, say, go for a short (3-5 mile ride) after about 120mg of methylphenidate and around 2mg of xanax? The ride would be mostly flat and could be taken rather slowly. I realize this is hard to answer because everyone is different, be I guess my real question is how dangerous is it to exercise on stimulants? I know they definitely cause heart irregularities and such, but considering I have a tolerance (and generally don't use shitty drugs like methylphenidate) my heart dosn't seem to speed up too much. Although, I am also on albuterol and my resting heart rate is generally pretty high.

Keep the doses low. You dont wanna be tweaken when your exercising/workin out. I work out on 5-10mg's of dexedrine and it works great. So just take it easy with the dosage.

Be careful with intense cardio exercise and methylphenidate (especially at high doses), as it seems to have more of a cardiac effect than would be expected for a pure DA reuptake inhibitor. Also, be extremely careful with intense cardio and (dl)-amphetamine or Adderall or 'Mixed Amphetamine Salts,' as the (l)-amphetamine is cardiotoxic. With enantiopure (d)-amphetamine, just be sure to keep the dose under control (nothing crazy) and, as said above, keep well hydrated, as it is easy to become dehydrated and, say, pass out.

I took 25 mgs of adderall and skated around san francisco for six hours last weekend... It was amazing, but my calves still hurt. Just force yourself to STRETCH, DRINK ENOUGH WATER, and don't OVER DO it, or you'll limp around for days like I am.

For the most part, things stressed about exercise safety while sober is the same for drugs. If you feel too tired, rest. If your breathing really hard, slow down to catch your breath. Thirsty, drink water. If your heart is pounding out of your chest, stop moving around.

Actually, I think everything is the same. I can't imagine anything different that you'd do on drugs than sober. Just the way might be different (stimulants will dehydrate you quicker, so you'll drink more water, but the principle is still the same).

But to relate to your question, I did a 150 mile bike race with bud for one part, and that was a mistake (buccal administration). But for the other part, I did a load of coke. And that was sooooooooooooooo much fun.

When i was in the army a few years ago i once snorted a few large lines of coke before a run/march with 30lb on our backs over 5 miles. I did it to see if it would help endurance. It was a big mistake, I ran out of breath much quicker than normal and my heart felt like it was going to explode. I was also unable to stop and had to carry on the whole way feeling terrible. I wouldn't recommend it

I take 20mg Adderall daily for ADHD (two 10mg doses spaced 6 hours apart) and take Tae Kwon Do classes without any serious problems, although I do tend to get dehydrated more easily

I don't think it's a good idea, but Lawrence Taylor and several other New York Giants used to bang rails before games and at halftime to get themselves fired up. It worked for LT as during his rail banging days was when played best, he said so himself.

My roomate in college had (still has, but he was my roomate like 5 years ago) permanent brain damage, due to the fact that he blew a bunch of coke one day and went to lift weights...

Long story short, his brain swelled to a ridiculuous size and he went into seizures and had to be ruched to the hospital....

Now he talks w/a slur, can't smell anything, and has learning disabilities, all stemming from that incident.....

So I always say excercising on any sort of stimulant is a bad idea, esp. coke, after seeing what happened to my old roomate.....

just be real fucking carful if you are gonna do it.....:\

a few people i know like to exercise on adderall...i remember i would exercise on 30 mg of it and after about 20 mins of cardio my heart rate would only be like 140 - 160 although it is easy to freak yourself out...i wonder if those people i know who sometimes exercise on it will have heart problems as a result in the future.

(l)-amphetamine is cardiotoxic.
What do you mean by that...second time i saw that today....isn't any stimulant cardiotoxic...

I didn't know ALL stimulants were cardiotoxic... i think that's wrong....

Perhaps your confusing coke. But stimulants are not cardiotoxic by nature.

^^ Cocaine's particularly cardiotoxic, but all stimulants, if used chronically over many years, can cause heart problems.

My advice with exercising on stimulants would be to take it easy... with cardio, use a heart rate monitor and make sure you don't go above, say, 80% of your maximum. And I'd avoid weights, as the effort of lifting can cause sharp blood pressure rises, which can in themselves sometimes be dangerous. On top of stimulant-induced hypertension, you'd be nicely set up for a cerebral haemorrhage.

Cardiotoxic is a BIG difference than "causes heart problems over chronical use of years".

Sure, amphetamines stress out the heart, no argument. It causes your heart rate to go up. Exercising like crazy stresses out your heart just as much.

But cocaine, not only causes stress, but is cardiotoxic.

You got to be kidding! Exercise naturally will increase your basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). Adding stimulents will unnaturally tell the brain to tell the heart , lungs, etc to speed up also so now you are heading to overdrive. Plus the stims will make you think you are feeling good because of action with some of your nuerotransmitters. Stroke, heart attack or failure. Haven't you ever heard of Korey Stringer (Minn Vikings) or Steve Belcher (Balt Orioles). jado

Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!

The ride turned out fine, took about 15 minutes and no problems, although I did take my cell phone just in case......

I wonder why someone would do this knowing that it is extremelty dangerous, not saying that just using the substance isn't dangerous enough.

Interesting...and no, I'm not being sarcastic or anything, I'm impressed that you can exercise on stimulants! I always get out of breath and my heart beats really fast, so I don't think it's a good idea for me.

It doesn't seem to be very safe though...stims and exercise.

I swim on benzos though, coz it's relaxing.

i think there's a great deal of exageration regarding stims and working out on this board...i know coke and working out is a really bad idea but i don't agree that amphetamine and exercising is really *that* terrible....

^^
I guess it depends on the individual...a healthy person shouldn't have to much problems. I wouldn't do it myself though, coz my bp at rest when I tweak is already 164/96 (right now), and it hits 200 if I administer a high payload one for a couple of minutes.
I'm not sure about stims and working out, but I do know that there's a lot of exaggeration about the dangers of benzos + alcohol on this board, which is not as dangerous as people make it out to be. ;)
