Hello. I'm 17, 5 feet 8 inches tall and I'm overweight for my age. I'm 200 lbs when I should be 170-180. I'm new to exercise and because of that, I'm not really sure how I should go about exercising without doing damage to my body.

I joined a gym and my priority (at the moment) is to lose 20 lbs to be at the weight I should be at. What motivated me was the fact that I go my blood check and the test results weren't good. My glucose was way velocity where it should be and my insulin was WAAAYY above where it should be. I don't remember my glucose levels my insulin was 193 when it should have been in the 20's I think. So to prevent myself from becoming diabetic, I've started exercising. But I have some major concerns that need to addressed.

I'm using Vyvanse to give me energy before going to the gym. While I'm at the gym, I usual get the same caffeinated energy drink that has 140MG's of Caffeine in it.

I already have prehypertension. My resting heart rate is usually somewhere between 90-110 beats per minute. But when I'm on the Vyvanse, my resting heart rate is usually between 120 and 140 beats per minute. The fact that my heart rate is that high scares me a bit. But couple that with exercise? And it gets dangerously high. I'm averaging 160-180 beats per minute while exercising. My heart rate is gradually slowing down now that I've started exercising, but it's really fast at the minute and I'm not sure whether or not I should be concerned?

Any input would be great. Thanks guys!

Hi swampfox, if I were you I would suggest that instead of using vyanse, just replace it with eating banana. This is what I usually do and it gives me enough energy to workout in the gym and it is a healthier option. I believe that your heart rate is high because of vyanse and caffeine on top of that. A question I have as well is what type of cardio exercise do you do in the gym? How fast do you run? If you just recently started it would be best to do it one step at a time like walk on the treadmill first so that you build up your speed and not just go into running without properly doing it. I would also suggest that you start at 15 min for cardio/exercise and then do half an hour after a few days or so.

Another qiestion I have is what is your diet like? If you would really like to lose weight your food consumption has also a big influence on it. Make sure to cut back on junk food and add fruits, vegetables and lean meat on your diet. It is also important to keep in mind the portions of food you consume per meal. Do not starve yourself though but rather keep everything in moderation.

Eat at a deficit. Dieting is the beginning of weight loss. Then do cardio activity along with weight training. Youll build a nice healthy looking body With minimal flab, less stretch marks, and will take on the healthy athletic look.

Also do not take stimulants as strong as vyvanse pre exercise. If needed for functioning such as with add then do your exercises in the morning (fasted cardio burns more fat) and then take your meds. If needed just for motivation look into ephedrine and caffeine stacks. Your local pharmacy should carry bronkaid behind the counter (dont want people making meth now do we ;) ) and generic caffeine pills. This will act as an appetite suppressant, increases your metabolism, and motivates you to work harder to burn those extra calories. Also if memory serves right caffeine itself is mildly anabolic. You can also look into albuterol or clenbuterol for weight loss as well.

Use that link to calculate your daily caloric needs then go below what would be need to maintain your current weight by 500cals this will get you roughly a pound a week loss, if you keep strictly to the diet.Add in a proper training routine and you will loose more weight. Google Starting Strength, it will give you an idea of a real basic idea of how you should be working out, covering all the basic and important compound exercises. Stay away from strong stims ( don't want to get a habit ) and try to watch the energy drinks they are loaded with calories and junk ones at that. But like Maya asked we don't really know what your training and diet is like if you could fire that back at us we can give more advise on where and what to change. You took the biggest step mate; and started to change your life style to get healthy, now its just the details to dial in and make it as ideal as possible. good luck brother and any more questions you need answered or any help we can give we will just ask mate.

you are 17, you can shed that weight and tone up no prob. now if you were like 50 or something lol, not as easy. remember the old saying you are what you eat, its 100% true. you can look like youre in good shape from the outside, but if you are eating over salty or sweet food rich in fats (esp trans fats) you could have all sorts of problems on the inside. keep the diet clean, no fast food ect. hit the weights, and make sure to get the cardio in.

Thanks for the tips guys! Also, I did forget to mention that I'm taking the Vyvanse for prescription reasons, not as a doping agent. I can't cut that out since it treats many symptoms quite well and I can't take it at a different time either. I have to take the Vyvanse as soon as I get up or else it lasts too long.

I also go to the gym bright and early in the morning. I just like it better. It seems to make my day brighter and gives me a bit more energy during the day. Plus, it's way more convenient for me. So I can't stop taking the Vyvanse or going to the gym at that time.

However, I will cut out as much Caffeine as possible. Maybe get one of those Vitamin energy drinks or a protein shake instead of the Caffeinated ones...

I'm going to have to agree with the people that are responding. Diet is absolute KEY. You need to manage what you eat!
You don't want to waste all your hardwork in running by eating junk food right after.

Personally, I would cut caffeine out. A protein shake works wonders and is way better. Best of luck, you can do it!

Exercise gradually to start with - may hire a personal trainer who can help you?

Forget using anything for energy. Your NATURAL energy will come as you exercise. Aim to do some walking each day n try to push this more on a daily basis.

Also - you have not told us much about your lifestyle ie do you work n is it sedentary or active? If you work - are they long hours? Are they constant? Do you work shits?

Try not to think in terms of WEIGHT but more in terms of DAT PERCENTAGE. You won't lose weight at first because your muscles will gain weight n water goes into the muscles when the body is first shocked into exercise. You'll lose inches firsr so please do not find this alarming - it is perfectly natural so throw away the scales n maybe purchase some clothes a few sizes down as a goal / find some which will motivate you.

You also need to look at what you are eating. Eating is not only a vasty amount of aid for weight loss (depending on different theories) but good nutrition affects exercise performance n the better you perform at exerside the more FAT you will lose. Aim to eat whole foods - NOT processed foods. Foods such as salmon have b6 to enhance mood (exercise will enhance mood - endorphin rush + results).

Please E-mail (PM) more if you want to talk further.

Uhh ur 17 and 5'8, who told u u shud be at 170-180? A 17 year old kid with ur height should be between 140-160

Also I read ur post and am curious why ur taking drugs for energy? Ur 17 u shud have plenty of energy. Eat an apple or banana with some peanut butter before going to the gym. It'll do ur body so much better too? And if u wanna lose weight start by losing the energy drinks. Whether its calorie free or not the amount of sugar in those things is doing u no favors....and of it isn't calorie free then good luck burning the calories in that drink let alone anything extra, your workout is basically to counteract the drink u just had, when the only reason u had the drink is for the workout, it's counter productive lol

Don't let cardio scare u bc of ur heart rate. If u have a high resting heart rate, regular cardio will actually fix that problem.

U need to change ur lifestyle. Do u have a job where u move around? Walk home from school or some shit. A body in motion stays in motion. It sounds stupid but it's true. Good luck

Do you work shits?

Yes, DO you work shits?

Oh and wtf r u doing asking exercise advice on a drug forum? Dnt get me wrong there's some smart ppl here and I respect them and what they have to say, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out ud prolly get much more info at bodybuilding.com forum
