YEah that's understandable, and methadone would work better as a painkiller, but it's still not a very good one, at all. Peope that take Opioids and opiates with long half lives tend to build a real fast tolerance to them, and at a certain dosage of methadone, around 60mg you're opiate receptors become saturated, which is what causes the blockade effect with methadone. The problem with that is that first of all, if you need breakthrough pain medication, if your at a dose of methadone intended for maintenance, you will get absolutely nothing out of it. Some people claim you can breakthrough the blockade with a large quantity or super strong opiate, but IME you really can't, you have a better chance at shooting through suboxone. I've shot over a bundle in less than four hours when I was on 70mg of methadone, and I did not get high, or feel anything from the heroin.
The ideal situation, if you really have chronic pain issues would to be prescribed maybey a low dosage of methadone from a doctor, and some breakthrough painkillers. Or maybey just try and get some MScontin. I actually read on Wikipedia that some eastern European countries are actually using extended release formulas of morphine to treat opioid addiction, with some success.
If pain is the real problem here though I don't think switching to a methadone clinic is a very good idea in the long run as most clinics try to push your dose up to at least 70mg if not higher. However I do not suffer from chronic pain, so maybey someone who does and has experience with methadone can fill you in. All I can say is that I had been hospitalized several times while on methadone, and pain medication had no effect for me. I imagine you've taken methadone before, but on maintenance, methadone is also very sedating, and not in a pleasant way, this could effect you're life similarly to the pain you suffer from as you may end up not even having the energy to do anything.
