Ex-Mod Returns...opiate addiction in tail

Hi,

My names Owain and I used to moderate BDD on bluelight a number of years ago (under the alias oenowen_mk2, since removed) before my chaotic lifestyle meant I did a rude and regretted disappearing act. Well, I'm back again to try and spread the harm reduction message and gain some support for myself.

Once again I am an opiate addict, and I'm currently on 80mg methadone per day, dropping to 70mg on my next script. Never done this state addiction thing before so looking for some help, and I'm thinking about getting myself in to some for of CBT as I'm beginning to admit I have some stuff I need to get to the root of. Definitely looking for peoples experiences on the types of therapy that helped them in relation to drug dependancy and all it's connotations.

So, that's me. 24 years old, ex benzodiazepine addict, ex ketamine addict, relapsed opiate addict. I like to think of myself as well read and relatively sharp but then again don't we all.

So that's it, I'm back. I'm here to really push the message of harm reduction and to hopefully receive some support and guidance from the trusted veterans this site has to offer to guide me through my detox.

Once again, I would like to apologise profusely to those I let down with the abandonment of my moderater duties in BDD, but I was in a bad place at the time and it fell off the priorities list very quickly.

Thanks for listening,
Owain

relatively new here myself so not sure on what youve done before but hey we all make mistakes etc. as with the opiates i wish you the best of luck getting off them, i know my quality of life has improved tenfold since i quit abusing heavily... i found the cold turkey approach the best for me, removing everything related to opiates in my house and doing a lot of exercise helps a bunch!

Hey owain, welcome back! Good luck on dropping your dose next week.

There is a thread in Drug Culture that discussed what has worked for some people, in terms of treating opiate addiction with either methadone or suboxone. I encourage you to check it out.

METHADONE VS. SUBOXONE....Your experience w each.

The Other Drugs forum also has a similar thread called **Methadone VS Suboxone Mega Merged Thread**

There is also a thread in DC that is more specific to methadone clinic experiences here;
MEGA MERGED METHADONE THREAD...All methadone clinic talk in here

And finally, there is the Methadone Mega Thread and FAQ v 2.0 in the Other Drugs forum. It is the second version of the thread, and the link to the first version can be found in the first post of that thread.

Time to catch up on some reading, and good luck! I only have experience with suboxone maintenance in the past, although I have used methadone once for a 4 day detox.

Hi Owain! When did you mod BDD? I've only been a mod since July.. and a member a few years, so I guess you are before my time? Welcome back! I hope we've been looking after the place adequately ;)

I really wouldn't worry about leaving suddenly - we all have real lives outside BL, people understand. BL should always be low on your priorities when you are going through a bad time; I've only been a mod for 5 months and I've already had to take a few breaks due to real life issues..

Big congrats on kicking the benzos and ketamine - not easy at all. Sounds like you are tackling the opioids too :) one thing at a time ey? :)

I've got a lot of personal experience with CBT - am not entirely sober right now but tomorrow I'll tell you about my experiences. In a nutshell - hard work, takes time, but absolutely worth it - worked wonders and gives you tools for life once it has clicked for you. Not for everyone, but the majority of people who stick it out and put in the work benefit it seems. I am a big advocate :D I had it for depression, so a bit different to you there but there is at least one poster who has experience of CBT (or is planning on getting it) relating to depression and drug dependency issues..

I'd recomment asking (or at least reading) in The Dark Side too - loads of experience there, plus a lot of support and help. It's a great place with a lot of info and is full of lovely people (not just saying that cos I mod it here ;) )

Really glad to have you back and look forward to your contributions to the forum (check out our social!)

Whereabouts are you from?

edit: ninja'd by Tommy, and with links and everything too, putting me to shame!! ;)

I remember you! Back when I used the site under a different name...what's good??

I've been using opiates on and off for quite a few years now, and if I were you I'd get off the methadone asap. Also while your getting off if I was able to I'd get into a good inpatient, cause for me it was basically impossible trying to get off opiates still doing the same shit and talking to the same people as I normally would. It's s bitch, but in the end shit gets better.

kratom helps ALOT too
