i, for one, enjoy having a moderated board, it means that i know that i am not going to go into a thread "you have to read this", and get some dumn ass redneck (no reference to US social here) wanting to know how to tie his shoelaces, and then two threads further down, "this is important" about a chick asking about buckles on her high heals.
it's nice to go into a thread "footware" and know what you are going to read.
(just an example)
if you want check out the other threads, i think that most of the people here would agree that BL is one of the most organised and well maintained msg boards around. and if you don't think so, then go leave your messages somewhere else.

I concur with De Spook, at first I used to think this board was over-moderated (still do to an extent, but that's just on certain opinions, and more-so the DD board). However, after using this thing flat out for several months, as opposed to the occasional flash by, I've noticed how important the moderation is. I've seen other BBs turn to absolute shit because they just became a mess of infighting and insults.
 
i'm over it all now ... well actually i'm abit hypo at the moment ... but i'm over all this bullshit so do what u want just do it @ an extent so no1 will get hurt

Well, first of all - Fuck PLUR. There I said it.
Secondly - I'm all in favour totally of closing threads that are irrelevent or stupid or totally lacking in content, thought etc. If you can make a post in Drug Discussion that isn't on topic but well thought out, sensible or just plain too fucking funny then it stays.
Thirdly - What I'm even more in favour of than closing threads is deleting them entirely and putting a nicely worded email to the poster why it was closed. This has a couple of effects - it keeps the board uncluttered and free of drivil, and the user has an email that says someone is really taking notice, there are real humans behind Bluelight, and perhaps how they should go about getting some information that they require. The email thing would be a lot easier if you had to give a reason to close posts (or delete them), which is the case on pill reports, and there was an auto thing that posted the reason to the orginal poster)
Now a nice balance has to be kept - we don't want the board becoming too dry and devoid of all life (like the public service), we don't want to be continually pointing people to old/archived posts that may of become a little outdated, and we want to keep alive some topics that are sort of always relevent and we can never really have too much converstation about. A tricky balance - but thats what the mods are for (keep up the good work guys and gals)
 
Further to the points already made, I think most of the the closed threads have been ones like 'list your favourite colour of poo' and other poll type ones.
I dont think I've ever seen one that actually promotes some kind of real discussion closed. These are the ones that are actually interesting guys!! People like to tell everyone their favourite undies are blue but honestly, can anyone tell me they bother to read 5 pages of that kinda shite?!
Anyway, back on topic, tarsy, pleo, etc. your doing a good job guys!!! Also, nark, I just want to point out that ironically enough, this was a good thread because its promoted some good discussion!!
