I was checking this thread daily when Dave first OD'd, and since he's gotten better I've checked in with far less frequency. And I can't believe the bullshit that's going on. Dave's OK, glory-fucking-be, close the thread.

I read all of your post that I saw, I loved what was posted, i know this sounds like a suck up but a lot of shit helped me more than anyone could have imagined. I've hesitated posting here since I don't really know much about Phreex other then what I've read at BL, and what I've heard from a few of his friends that I know, but I just wanted to let you know that your quote is actually the first two lines of chapter 56 in the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, not something Lennon came up with.

the whole point was that, like the other poster said, being passive is being slow. Today's society operates in a New York-minute tempo. If you aren't with the beat, than you're behind it. Got a problem with it? then go ahead of it and change it altogether. You slowing down is just that--no one else is going to want to fall behind with you when the future of the future is constanly being looked upon.

My statement wasn't meant to change anything. It was to point out the fact that you misinterpreted the quote, and it is quite obvious you did. You should slow down in your New York minute tempo and think about what it actually means... it is NOT saying be passive, slow down, or dont talk, so if you want to make a point at least dont do it by completely misinterpreting a statement.

I KNOW what it means. I'm telling you that it isn't applicable in today's society because of the mode society is in--we are governed so that this way of thinking is made most difficult to fit in every portion of our lives, especially the portion that means the most because it's the one you have to strive for the most: where you get your income. People do not want to make an effort to apply something as transcending and thoughtful as this because the present government (i.e: the media--encompassing all areas that use the media) of society is NOT thoughtful or transcending. Of course they can always do it, i'm not saying they can't im saying they WON'T. Some of today's careers wouldn't allow it, since being opinionated and vocal can be the lifeblood of someone's work.
The quote is right, society's way of governing isn't and therein lies the confliction.
