Everyone come together and pray for PhreeX

I won't try to make it a secret that I was never really fond of PhreeX. I didn't really dislike him much, but I wasn't a fan of his because there were times when I questioned his honesty and when I thought he was endorsing reckless and dangerous activities. I've said this in public to him before, so, this shouldn't come as any surprise to anyone. I'm saying this simply because my sense of integrity wouldn't allow me to praise the guy when I don't really feel that way just because he's run into a problem.
That said, I do hope he pulls out of this OK and gets a second chance. If nothing else, I'd hate to see his family and friends endure such a tragedy.
Sadly though, if he's been out of it this long... Well, with a drug overdose coma, generally the patient will wake up once the drug has cleared the system. If he has been out this long there is a very real possibility he has suffered serious brain damage due to too long without oxygen or perhaps due to a head trauma if he happened to fall and bang his head while intoxicated. If so, he may never fully awaken, and if he does, he may be pretty retarded for life. On the other hand, some people do pull out of these things after days or weeks and made pretty full recoveries. I hope the guy is one of the lucky ones.
With all the recent problems I've seen online lately (Ripper, PhreeX, this new BL death)... its really reinforcing my disillusionment with the internet drug scene. I wish more online drug users displayed the same sort of intelligence and caution I see in real life drug users I know. In the real world, drug users I meet tend to be quite educated and responsible, with only a handful of self-destructive reckless idiots. Sadly, the situation in cyberspace seems reversed. I really think this reflects more on the internet than drug users. I think that many of the people who frequent internet forums (regardless of topic) don't represent the best of society as a whole. There are many shining exemptions to this, but unfortunately, not enough.
Anyway, I think there's still at least hope that PhreeX will come out of this OK. Hope so.
 
When I had life threatening depression and was desperately seeking help PhreeX went out of his way to personally write to me with some words of encouragement.
To me, his intelligent posts were the most entertaining of all on Bluelight. They have imparted knowledge, humour, insight and happiness to many people in this community and will be sorely missed.

Murple, your comments here mirror my own thoughts exactly.
As an ex-addict myself, I can appreciate the struggles PhreeX may have undergone with his addiction, but I have to say that I didn't like his on-line persona at all. IMO, if he did any good at all, it was severly outweighed by the bad he did.
All too often when people were saying they wanted to stop using, he would encourage them to continue. In fact his behaviour on the board was often immature, irresponsible, disrespectful and destructive and it has concerned me that he has been hero-worshipped for these undesirable qualities.
For the sake of him and his family, although it's unlikely, I do hope that he can pull through and then perhaps have a go at really being the good person that people claim him to be.
 
I must say I'm in total shock as I read this. Dave was easily the person I respected most on this and his underground board. I always knew if I asked a question he would have an answer for me.
Dave - you will be in my thoughts until I hear you are fully recovered. I dont pray much, but I will say one for you today.
Unfortunately sometimes the brightest stars burn out the fastest.

I hope this is a powerful reminder to those out there who do not properly control their usage. You know who you are.
 
i dont usually post, i am more of a reader. his posts have saved many lives, including my own. my thoughts and prayer are with phreex and his family.

You all have some nerve! How dare you come here and post that crap! You may not have like him, fine but that is no reason to to say such horrible things when his friends and family are reading these post as means to encouragement! His mother and sister read this! I hope you feel a little better about yourselves now that we all know you like to bad mouth people when they are in a coma! Reguardless of what kind of life a person led no one deserves to be going through something like this NO ONE! I would put my life on the line to say if it was one of your family members who you cared about dearly who led the same life as Dave you would not be saying those things, or even worse if it was you in that hospital bed! I pray you never have to go through this but maybe it would open your eyes a little, and show you how to have a little respect and compassion!

P.S. GREAT NEWS!!! Dave's waking up he is repsonding to light and touch though his heart rate is up the docs say it's because he's trying to cope with whats going on, it's to soon to say where he's at mentally but we know now he's with us!!!!!!
THANK YOU BLs who have prayed and supported him and his family maybe we helped this happen!!!

I agree with this statement, but it does not justify the "he deserved what he got" tone of your post.

You are SO wrong. If anything, internet drug users, as evidenced by the existence of their internet access, represent a more educated and affluent sector of society than the general population of drug users. Your assertion that internet users represent a "deviant" sector of society has no basis other than your presumptuous elitism. Just because you happen to travel in the right circles doesn't mean everybody does.

GOOD NEWS! My brother is waking up! I saw him tonight at the hospital....he looks at you with his eyes..and has really good reflexes...(blinks, coughs..even crys) he hasn't spoken yet..he still cant breathe on his own....but he's awake! The pessimisstic ASSHOLE doctors tell us not to get our hopes up b/c this could be the extent of his recovery...but damnit were all praying for the best! THank you all for your support and love..it means the world...those who wrote me in response to my letter, (Julia, Justin, Mike ) your letters help a lot. I know that Dave was still Dave under it all....and I know he means well. I appreciate all those who truly tried to help him...I know how hard he is and I don't blame anyone.
In your letters you guys have also said that David only stands for "responsible drug use". I would just like to point out to those of you who are using.... there isn't any responsible way to take drugs...you're still killing yourselves. It's really somthing to think about- ya know?

Thank you for the update Ashlie that is terrific news. Dave sure is a trooper and we are all hoping he makes a full recovery.
Also, I really hope that many of you are trying to be more careful with drug use, seeing how PhreeX, the "invincible" super responsible user just severly overdosed. I really like how you are using Dave's overdose as a wake up call for people who might be a little over the board, the more good that comes out of this the better.
