European court weighs cannabis ban for foreigners

I'm saying that the costs (not just in currency people) probably outweigh the economic advantages.. We wouldn't be having this problem if those folks would just buy their shit in their own country. Maybe some tourists come just for the drugs, like most Brits in Amsterdam.. coincidentally, they seem to be universally hated. Seriously, don't think the average Dutch person will miss you if you come here just to get fucked up.

Honestly the primary reason I would go to The Netherlands is to take drugs. At the same time I know the Nederlands has a great culture and I would respect it. How can someone be universally hated for going primarily because of the drugs? In case you don't know many, many people take drugs, particularly hallucinogenics like psilocybin mushrooms, to have life changing and spirtually significant experiences. If someone wants to just get 'fucked up' then honestly they're going to want to take drugs like ecstasy, speed, cocaine or alcohol. All of which are illegal in the Nederlands (besides alcohol obviously). I think if someone genuinely ventured to the Nederlands just to get 'fucked up' I would find this quite perculiar and they must be very ignorant and uneducated about the effects of the soft drugs which are tolerated in the Nederlands. How can someone who ventured to Nederlands in an attempt to have a life changing and spiritual experience be 'universally hated'? You must have just worded your comment wrong. I think what you mean is people who come to abuse the drugs are universally hated. There is a big difference.

...Its rapid tolerance and diminishing returns means that I can seldom get more than one GOOD high per day, and the mental side effects -- paranoia, social withdrawl, decreased short term memory -- definitely balance out, if not outweigh, the euphoric or beneficial effects for most people.

If that's what marijuana does to you then I suggest you don't smoke it.

I have smoked weed for over 20 years and I can assure you that I do not feel any of those "side effects". At best I find I find it a mild sedative that helps me to relax every now and then, nothing more, nothing less.

Suggesting that this is what "most people" feel is a gross exaggeration - if that was all it did then nobody would smoke it in the first place.

We all know it's the Nederlanders who organized international prohibition just to be the only ones to take pleasure in smoking weed and hash.
So don't play the sanctimonious, you're just a bunch of hypocritical morons. Get lost.
I'm planning to go to Amsterdam soon to smoke some good stuff and fuck off if you're not ok with that. Just take my money and shut up.

wft?

this means if i go to amsterdam from the United States, they arent going to allow me any weed. well fuck, ill just renounce my US citizenship, why live in the US anyway? according to wikipedia , it isnt even among the top 15 freest countries, so much for "US being the freest country in the world" , i always knew it wasnt all that free.

I live in the netherlands (rotterdam) and i dont see why all the hate , sure some tourist come her to get fucked up and make trouble but i dont thinbk that has very much to do if you have a coffeeshop or not in your town.

i work as a postman in the center of rotterdam and have seen a lot of tourist in the city this summer there wasn't 1 i had any problems with or found any misbehaving.

We should be glad tourist have a extra reason to come and visit the netherlands.

And its very true that not a big part of the dutch people are smoking pot.
from every person i know only 2 persons that actually smoke pot sometimes that are dutch.

in my book good behaving tourist are welcome, let share some pot together ;-)

This would be a rather foolish thing to do seeing as cannabis is such a money maker... most of the people who go to amstradamn most likly are going to smoke pot... anyway I hope this doesnt happen

Tourism

If anything, wouldn't lowering drug tourism take away more than 50% of the tourists interest and lose money for the Dutch government?

tourism=good :\
