In an igloo made of asbestos and chicken-wire.
I write this eulogy for you in the dark
Lightless scrawls guided by memory
Every word scratched like runes
In pages hard to turn
A book that's hard to read
I loved you
I hated you
Now you're gone
From every place the sun shines
All the influence
You once held
Is a fist of ash
Trembling in the most forgotten corner
Preying on nothing
Praying to remain unseen
Your false reign of power
Gone the way of all things
And the finest revenge
I can bring down upon you
Is to say
I just don't care
About you
Anymore.

I really liked it! It's a bit melancholic and sad, but in the same way beautiful. I especially liked " Lightless scrawls guided by memory/Every word scratched like runes/In pages hard to turn/A book that's hard to read ", this poem is really powerfull and great. I would love to read more :)

What a powerful piece. I can feel the strength and liberation you must have felt viscerally in my chest when I read the last lines. Abuse is about control. You took control. The "fist of ash" trembling in the corner is a great image.

Excellent, things like this are so hard to put into words! Taking back the power is liberating isn't?

In the interests of transparency I feel like I should say this wasn't inspired by anyone/anything from my life, I have just been trying to write again because it's been a while! Thanks for the comments though, I am glad it resonated :)

You got into the head of a person that has had the experience of being abused. If not based on direct experience, good character study!:)

Good piece, the imagery in the beginning was strong but I liked the end the most:
"and the finest revenge
I can bring down upon you
Is to say
Ijust dont care
About you
Anymore"
I loved those last few lines.
I treat those who hurt me the same way and it is the finest revenge.

Wow. EVer think of trying to get published because you've got something there. I see a book of poems in your future........Again, wow.

Well, please allow me to be some random folk out there who feels the need to encourage you with this. When a poem brings the reader on a journey as though we are right beside the heart that writes it, well, it is special. It is a gift and you indubitably have it.
I wish you all the best with this.
