BRUSSELS, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- The European Commission has added two drugs essential to lethal injection in the United States to a restricted list of products used for torture or execution.

Trade in the items on the list by companies in the 27 countries in the European Union is tightly controlled. The EC added eight barbiturates, including pentobarbital and sodium thiopental, to the list, The Guardian reported Tuesday.

None of the EU member states retain the death penalty. Its policy effectively bans trade that contributes to "capital punishment, torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment."

Hospira, an Illinois company, stopped manufacturing sodium thiopental in 2009, saying that being the source of an execution drug hurt its reputation. States that retain the death penalty are dealing with a shortage of drugs.

Britain adopted similar tough controls in 2010.

This is wrong. These drugs are more frequently used for good purposes, like sedation and euthanasia. For instance, if powerful barbs are unobtainable, societies may begin to euthanize animals in crueler ways.

Drugs don't execute people. People do. Change the people.

Isn't the whole reasoning behind the lethal injection to do with making it so no single person has blood on their hands. I'm sure like 6 people inject all at the same time but only one has the fatal chemicals in...(I could be wrong though)

But if you get some military motherfuckers to do the firing squad routine, surely they don't care about more blood on their hands?

^you might think so, but most military men aren't the feelingless jarheads as seen on tv. Their regular human beings that feel guilt just like anyone else. I believe that many people that were part of the Nazi execution squads suffered from depression and guilt for all the innocent people they killed.

Interesting. I was under the impression that's what was done with firing squads.
Everyone shoots but most of em are blanks so no one knows who fired the fatal shot.
Perhaps I was backwards.
