Can this method be used effecrively long term and pickcing situations who natuarlly frighten me under the influence might help be more relaxe while sober? It seems that desintisizing in social situations with benzo's might be a a big help in getting rid of this, so my question is this. Yes or No? I've tried tackling this problem on my own without succedd and I think this plan might actually work. Can you become gradually more releaxed in social situations by tapering down slowly the dosage in those situations?

Yes, you can accomplish fear extinction by using benzos. Using etizolam or any other benzo on the regular is a bad plan, though. The whole reason this works because your body gets into a negative feedback loop (anxiety triggers a rise in blood pressure/heart rate, which causes further anxiety, which makes your body more stressed, etc.). Benzos can remove the anxiety 'trigger' from the equation.

The classical example of this is someone with an acute fear of dentists taking an Ativan before each checkup. Eventually they will learn there's nothing to be afraid of, their body doesn't trigger the panic/fear/anxiety response any more, and you don't even need the Ativan any more once the association between dentists and anxiety is broken.

If you are talking about taking benzos more than occasionally, you should think twice about what is causing your anxiety. Regular usage of benzos will lead to them losing efficacy.

No, like sekio said. You can greatly reduce fear with benzos on some occasions. However regular use will quickly lead to tolerance and addiction. You will have to take them just to feel normal (or not get a seizure if you took big doses)

Since sekio already did the dentist example... my mom is really afraid of flying since she flies maybe 1 per year taking a benzo before flight is fine. If she had to fly daily it wouldn't be.

Same thing for insomnia, something stressful coming up and you can't sleep? Sure take one. Have problems falling asleep all the time? Bad idea.

I was more thinking along the lines where mdma made me more confident because of the experience itself. Will taking the help from benzo's and normally anxiety triggering situations socially speaking help social anxiety long term or will it just be an escape. What I'm saying is can it work therapeautic like a desensitizing process?
edit: by social situations I mean going to a birthday where I don't know anyone etc, not regular situations.

Etiz isn't too bad, but a weekly dose of phenibut works wonders for social anxiety :)

Watch out for addiction with that one too. No, 1x per week won't do it, but if it helps a lot, will you stick to 1x per week?
